My dad grew up during the Cultural Revolution in China. He was even in Beijing when Tiananmen happened. He said that everyone lived in poverty and his family could not afford things like a TV or Radio. Except he had a friend, who’s father was diplomat. His dad was able to bring back a cassette player, but only 1 cassette. That cassette was an album of hits by Boney M, so he and his friends listened to it everyday because that the only music they had. Fast forward 30 some years, we were sitting in the car, driving to Chicago and Sunny comes on the radio. Dude speaks really broken english but i was amazed that he knew all the lyrics. Ive never heard of Boney M before that moment

My family went on summer vacation every year when i was younger and we would listen to Boney M in the car. Even tho many years have passed, i still associate Boney M with summer, going to the beach, eating ice cream and generally having fun and no worries. I really miss those times :')
