With Cold Eyes
BoySetsFire Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And who the hell are you is it asked or forced to do
Do you pray for holiness or just prey on my willingness
To starve beg consume for something you can't prove
If I'm unworthy it's you that brought me here
I sacrificed so much just to let you own my fears
Please don't let go of me
And I will carry on with your burden on my shoulders
A corpse to force my guilt through lips you thought you sealed
And sins you cant let go have blinded you on your throne
And left me here alone.
While god sleeps the righteous feed upon the meek.
What kind of father sits and lets his children bleed?
Don't just stand there show us all if this is trueâ??
That your love and mercy isn't for a chosen few
In the opening of the song "With Cold Eyes", Boysetsfire delves into the idea of fear and how it is often provoked by the submission that makes demands. The lyrics question the motivations of the person or entity that is making these demands, asking whether they are seeking holiness or just exploiting the willingness of others to obey. The song also questions the idea of sacrifice and how it can be used to manipulate people, with the line "I sacrificed so much just to let you own my fears".
As the song progresses, Boysetsfire criticizes the hypocrisy within religious institutions, with the lines "Where's the white washed tomb out of which your god's been exhumed / A corpse to force my guilt through lips you thought you sealed". The song reflects on how the sins of those in power can lead to blindness and a sense of isolation among individuals who feel let down by the very people who claim to be leading them.
Overall, "With Cold Eyes" is a powerful critique of the ways in which religious institutions can manipulate and harm individuals, while ignoring the suffering of those who are vulnerable. The song encourages listeners to question the motives of those in power and to resist fear and submission in the face of demands that lack compassion and empathy.

to respond to that question i used to be young. I see the pain behind many eyes and father who watches his son bleed is a president who does it to a nation. If we watch we will cry but if you silence us we are nothing distract us from the wounds we inflict on each other is that any better to watch others bleed.....
