The Rain
Boy & Bear Lyrics

And let it rain
I'll eat the grain
I'll lay in mud
I'll fall in love with people I have never met before
I'm young
I'm out of luck
And I don't even know if I could want
There's a lump inside my throat
That keeps the blood from spilling over
There are crows
And they know me
I'm alone like they told me
But I listen to their calls
They are free
I wish that I could lie awake and
Let the wind take me away
I wish that I could try again and
Keep the hatred out my veins
The lyrics of Boy & Bear's song "The Rain" are cryptic and poetic, painting an enigmatic picture of a place that is both uncertain and familiar. The repeated mantra of "home to the rain, deep in the bay" evokes a sense of longing for a place of belonging that is not fixed or concrete. This place is described as being both "old as the brave" and "will of the weak," hinting at a nuanced understanding of strength and vulnerability.
The second verse of the song reinforces this theme, as the singer describes a location where "the four?" run, and where they will dance for the rain to come. The ambiguity of this reference only adds to the sense of mystery that pervades the song. The repeated plea to be led home leaves the listener wondering what this "home" really means, and whether it can ever really be found.
Overall, the lyrics of "The Rain" are rich with symbolism and meaning, leaving ample room for interpretation and reflection.
