In 2005 the band signed to the independent record labels Burning Heart Records for worldwide distribution and Equal Vision Records for North American distribution. It released The Misery Index: Notes from the Plague Years in March 2006.
On July 31, 2006, the band informed the fans about its retirement through their official website. [1] There was a farewell European tour in late summer; however, guitarist Josh Latshaw severely injured himself prior to its start. As a result, the band played those shows with roadie Chris "The Reverend" Rakus at the guitar instead, but returned to Europe in May 2007 to give Latshaw the chance to say goodbye to the European fans.
The band's final performance took place on June 9, 2007 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Trocadero Theatre. A DVD is rumored to be released of this show in its entirety as well as parts of the final European tour.[citation needed]
On February 12, 2007, lead vocalist Nathan Gray announced that he was forming a new band by the name of The Casting Out.[1] While the band includes several former members of boysetsfire, Gray informed fans that it would not be another political band.

A Far Cry
Boy Sets Fire Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
stand in line for the latest attraction dressed up murder like its hip
and in fashion
walked in like we owned the place β bright light corpse
trigger pressed down sweat is cold β I'm not here
bodies burn with babies in their arms β love as trash
hope is where the heart can die β what we bring
son into heir they made my bed to lieβ¦ roll the dieβ¦a far cry
where the blood can drown my soul β rain down fire
all I wanted was destination β all I got
all I got was all I gave β hope as shit
give up because you'll never justify the blood on your fingers
the bullshit look of concern
the cover ups lies and the bloated corpse of a system that is begging to burn
surrender
The lyrics to Boy Sets Fire's "A Far Cry" is a commentary on the glorification of violence, war and power that is prevalent in our society. The song speaks about the ease with which people sell the idea of warfare as an exciting and glamorous attraction. The opening lines, "Find myself through sight of a gun and selling war never looked so fun" suggest that people are seeking a sense of identity and purpose through the use of violence. The second line, "stand in line for the latest attraction dressed up murder like its hip and in fashion" further emphasizes this point as it portrays the act of murder as fashionable.
The song then goes on to critique the consequences of war and violence, which are often overlooked. The line, "bodies burn with babies in their arms β love as trash" speaks about the immense loss and suffering that accompanied war. Similarly, "where the blood can drown my soul β rain down fire" hints at the emotional and physical toll that war has on soldiers. The line, "give up because you'll never justify the blood on your fingers" brings the song back to the idea of accountability and responsibility.
The chorus, "all I wanted was destination β all I got was all I gave β hope as shit" reflects on the futility of violence and war as a means to an end. This is further emphasized in the line "son into heir they made my bed to lieβ¦ roll the dieβ¦a far cry" which symbolizes the cyclical nature of war and violence.
Overall, "A Far Cry" is a thought-provoking commentary on the allure of violence and war as a means of achieving one's ambitions and the devastating consequences that follow.
