[Instrumental]
As it is an instrumental piece, there are no lyrics to interpret. However, Night In Tunisia is a classic jazz composition with a rich history.

Dynamic, swinging performance and great audio transfer. Thank you!

I think this is a take I hadn’t heard actually. Still, one of Boyd’s best! Dizzy helped with this arrangement. George Handy did a lot of the other numbers like Tonsillectomy and Keyf.
Dizzy really sounds like Roy Eldridge in this one too. The influence is still fresh.

Boyd was way ahead of his times in big band jazz his arrangements were so cool and hep

Raeburn did much for big band be-bop style and recorded this be-bop hit, kind of hymn, yet before Gillespie's small group did in 1945. Having that expressive, intense, vehement trombone playing the melody is great idea, the last note the played was like an altissimo (?) for that instrument! The sax sounding as Don Byas could be Cohn? I don't think so, he was in the Lester Young tradition, young Lucky Thompson would be best choice, not bop oriented but romantic as Webster and a bit ahead. Gillespie did not played the trumpet solo here and I don't mind who wrote it in the label!! This trumpet was not dizzy at all and Gillespie always honoured his nickname. His trumpet was sharp as a shark in those days. The alto sax was Bothwell for sure. I liked it a lot!! Did Nipper run away from those daring be-bop sounds?

Yup I do believe Lucky Thompson did play with Boyd’s band for a bit as well as having his own small groups in the mid 40s as well. Great comment and lots to think about when it comes to these personnel labels.
