I remember sayin' I don't care either way
I recall mentioning that the sex of the child didn't matter to me as long as they were healthy.

Just as long as he or she is healthy I'm okay
I am satisfied as long as my child is in good health, regardless of their gender.

Then the doctor pointed to the corner of the screen
The physician directed my attention towards a specific area on the ultrasound image.

And said "Ya see that thing right there, well you know what that means"
The doctor informed me that the image indicated the gender of the child.

And I started wondering who he was going to be
I began pondering what kind of person my child would grow up to be.

And I thought heaven help us if he's anything like me
I feared for the future if my child had any of the same traits and tendencies as myself.

He'll probably climb a tree to tall and ride his bike too fast
The child is likely to take risks, such as climbing high or riding their bike at great speeds.

End up every summer wearin' something in a cast
As a result of his daring behavior, he may get injured often and require a cast frequently.

He's gonna throw a ball and break some glass, in a window down the street
The child will accidentally break a window while playing ball in the neighborhood.

He's gonna get in trouble, he's gonna get in fights
The child will inevitably get into trouble and engage in physical altercations with others.

I'm gonna lose my temper and some sleep
As a result of my child's behavior, I will become angry and lose sleep worrying about him.

It's safe to say that I'm gonna get my payback, if he's anything like me
I expect to receive some form of retribution for the upbringing I gave my child if he acts like I did.

I can see him right now, knees all skinned up
I can envision my child with scraped knees from his many falls.

With a magnifying glass tryin' to melt a Tonka truck
He will experiment with a magnifying glass and attempt to melt his toy truck.

Won't he be a sight with his football helmet on
He will look adorable while wearing a football helmet as a young child.

That'll be his first love til his first love comes along
Playing football will be his initial passion until he discovers romance.

He'll get his heart broke by the time he's in his teens
He will experience heartbreak from romantic relationships during his teenage years.

And heaven help him if he's anything like me
It will be a challenge for him if he has my temperament and personality traits.

He'll probably stay out too late and drive his car too fast
As a teenager, he will likely stay out later than he is supposed to and drive recklessly.

Get a speeding ticket he'll pay for mowing grass
He will have to work to earn the money to pay for the speeding ticket he incurred while cutting grass for others.

He's gonna get caught skippin' class and be grounded for a week
He will inevitably skip school and be punished by being grounded for a week.

He's gonna get in trouble, we're gonna get in fights
He will get into trouble regularly, leading to conflicts between us.

I'm gonna lose my temper and some sleep
I will become angry and lose sleep worrying about him, given his behavioral issues.

It's safe to say that I'm gonna get my payback, if he's anything like me
I will receive retribution for my prior behavior and upbringing on my child if he turns out like me.

He's gonna love me and hate me along the way
My child will experience mixed emotions towards me while growing up.

Years are gonna fly by, I already dread the day
Time will pass quickly, and I already dread letting go of my child.

He's gonna hug his momma, he's gonna shake my hand
He will show affection to his mother and express gratitude to me as his father.

He's gonna act like he can't wait to leave
As he matures, he will seem eager to venture out on his own.

But as he drives out, he'll cry his eyes out
As he leaves home, he will be emotional and cry heavily.

If he's anything like me
If he has characteristics similar to mine, he will experience similar emotions when venturing out on his own.

There's worse folks to be like
Although I have my faults, there are even worse people my child could model himself after.

Aw he'll be alright, if he's anything like me
Despite all the challenges he may face, he will be okay if he shares my mindset and problem-solving abilities.
