Promised Land
Brandyn Burnette Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Will I still live when the love is gone
Ahhh
And the thought of my mother′s eyes
Crying every night
Is enough to make my heart grow cold
Please put down the wine
Cause lightning never strikes
In the same place twice
Its hard right now
I understand
But i can see the promised land
Its hard right now
To understand
But i can see the promised land
Oooooh
Perfume made of cigarettes
Cause you forgive but can't forget
Ahhh
Cause the thought of another night
No one by your side
Is enough to make your heart grow cold
I hate to hear you cry
Please put down the wine
Cause lightning never strikes
In the same place twice
Its hard right now
I understand
But i can see the promised land
Its hard right now
To understand
But i can see the promised land
Oooooh
The lyrics in Brandyn Burnette's song Promised Land explore the artist's personal struggles with coming from a broken home and trying to navigate life in the aftermath of lost love. Burnette questions his own mortality and wonders if he can still live without love. He shares the pain of seeing his mother cry every night and how it affects his own heart to grow cold. Burnette tries to ease the pain of his loved one by urging them to stop drinking and forgive, but not forget. The anticipation of more lonely nights without a partner is enough to make the person's heart grow cold as well.
The repeated lyric "its hard right now, I understand, but I can see the promised land" offers a message of hope and perseverance in the face of difficult times. Burnette acknowledges the current struggle but is confident that better times are ahead, represented by the promised land. This refrain offers a powerful sense of optimism and the potential for better times to come, despite the current pain.
