Brazzaville Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Rodney’s on the radio
The RTD and a pack of cloves
Oh Oh oo Oh oo Oh Oh Oh
And girls in death rock pantyhose
Junes are cloudy in L.A.
All the city’s shades of gray
Oh Oh oo Oh oo Oh Oh Oh
And morning seems to last all day
And if I should die
In the meantime
Take me home
To those days
When the world
Still really shone
Come on Baby ride with me
We’ll take the bus down to the sea
Go swimming in the morning light
Oh Oh oo Oh oo Oh Oh Oh
And lose the memories of last night
And if I should die…
The song "1983" by Brazzaville is a nostalgic track that reminisces about the simpler days of the past. The opening lyrics describe the scene of a 15-year-old listening to Rodney's voice on the radio while carrying a pack of cloves and admiring girls dressed in death rock pantyhose. The song then moves on to talk about how June months were often overcast in Los Angeles, a city that is typically known for its sunny weather. The city is described as shades of gray, with the air feeling warm due to the ocean spray. The mornings are long and never-ending, with the lyrics suggesting that life was more carefree in those times.
The chorus of the song mentions death, but not in a morbid way. It simply states that if the singer were to die, they would like to be taken back to those summer days of 1983, when life was simpler and brighter. The second verse talks about the joys of going for a swim in the morning light and forgetting the memories of the previous night. The song closes with the same chorus, emphasizing that the singer wishes to be taken back to a time before the complexities of adulthood.
Overall, the song "1983" presents a wistful longing for a simpler time. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a nostalgic past that is remembered with fondness. The chorus suggests that the passing of time and the complexities of life can make one long for a time when everything was more carefree.
