Does She Love That Man?
Breathe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Endlessly walking through a winter that's so bitterly cold
Christmas is coming all the stores are wrapped in their neon glow
But I don't feel festive
Oh I've lost the woman I held so dear
I'm so reflective as I think of all our happy years
I brush against a stranger,
So I turn to apologize
And I saw her, with another man, and a sparkle in her eyes

Does she love that man?
The way that I'm loving her still
Does she love that man?
For she has broken my will to survive

I walked to a cafe where I sat and stared at an empty wall
The waitress talked to me, but I could not hear her words at all
The only sound that I could hear was the screaming of my soul
My world revolved around one single thing I wish to know

Does she love that man?
The way that I'm loving her still
Does she love that man?
For she has broken my will to survive

The weather was changing, snow began falling
The sky became dark like the mood of my heart
I watched all the lovers
Sharing together, their smiles and laughter were painful reminders
I seem to recapture the moment I held her
I made her swear that she'd always be there
But she left me sorrow and fear of tomorrow
As soon as I wake there's a pain I can't shake in my heart

Does she love that man?
The way that I'm loving her still
Does she love that man?
For she has broken my will
Does she love that man?
The way that I'm loving her still
Does she love that man?
For she has broken my will
Does she love him?

Does she love him?
Does she love that man?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Breathe's song "Does She Love That Man?" depict a heartbroken man who is trying to come to terms with the fact that he has lost the woman he loves. He is walking through the bitter cold of winter, feeling reflective and saddened as he thinks about their happy years together. However, his reflection is interrupted when he accidentally brushes against a stranger and sees his ex-girlfriend with another man. He wonders if she loves that man the way he still loves her, and if she is the reason for his broken will to survive.

The song captures the pain of unrequited love and the feeling of being left behind by someone who was once an important part of your life. The man's despair is depicted through the changing weather - as the snow starts falling and the sky becomes dark, mirroring the mood of his heart. He sits in a cafe, unable to hear the words of the waitress or anyone else, as he tries to process his feelings.

The song ends with him questioning whether she loves that man, and in doing so, has broken his will to survive. The lyrics are heart-wrenching as they depict the man's pain and sadness, making it a powerful ballad that many can relate to.

David Glasper was an underrated brilliant singer. So unfortunate that there were only two albums by this incredible group.

Can't agree more. Excellent vocalist. Wish there were live videos of anything they did.

I have both albums as well I’m excited to listen to them when I start taking walks

I wish they’d come back already. We’re overdue on new Breathe tracks. Sadly of course the Drummer (Ian “Spike” Spice) passed away due to a accident in Thailand in 2000.

Breathe only released two albums. "All That Jazz" & "Peace Of Mind". Both terrific. No filler tracks. All of their songs were top notch.

This guy has a fantastic voice. Even though this is a sad break-up song, I have always loved it for the fantastic vocals.

David Glasper had one of the finest blue eyed soul voices of that era. It's so sad this album Peace Of Mind didn't yield any commercial hits, but it's an underrated classic.

Most underated band in the 80's.
