The lyrics of this song by Brian Eno, John Cale, Kevin Ayers, Mike Oldfield, Nico And The Soporifics and Robert Wyatt convey a sense of transformation and change. The first lines hint at the idea of something that was once static being altered or improved - "Two goes into four, two times no more, two will make four". This ambiguous phrase could refer to any number of things - perhaps it is a metaphor for a relationship or a creative project, where the addition of new elements leads to a richer outcome. The second verse takes this further, with the idea of one thing turning into another: "Blue goes into green, mostly unseen, blue becomes green". The transformation is happening even if we can't see it happening, and the end result is something completely different.
The song then moves onto a more introspective topic: "Dreams take me so far, life is the star, trapped in my jar". The dreaming mind can take us anywhere, but it is within the confines of our own experiences and perspective. The line "Life is the star" suggests that we are all the singers of our own lives, but sometimes we feel restricted by our own limitations - like we are living in a jar. The final lines point towards the solution to this problem: "Follow the wind, open your heart, then you may start to make it better". By taking a chance and opening ourselves up to new experiences, we can break free of the confines of our own minds and start to improve our lives.

Here we have four quite iconic 70s musical characters, obviously brought together by ISLAND to promote their recently signed acts (of which only Eno via Roxy and of course E.G. Records) already had a (distribution) contract with Island since 1972.
Thx for this "Outtake" Version of the epic recording.
