Open Arms
Brian Kennedy Lyrics

Don't the reasons always mean to be pure to another
When we are not so understood, will I find something good
The more things lead to harm with open arms
That take the need away
Love came to ease and tame all that had seeded shame
My relieving seems to frail to be named, ever needing
More things lead to harm with open arms
That take the need away
Don't the reasons always mean to be pure to another
But I don't feel many
When we are not so understood will I find something good
More things lead to harm with open arms
That take the need away
Open your arms
Open your arms
Brian Kennedy’s song Open Arms talks about the human condition and the search for love and understanding. The lyrics evoke a sense of vulnerability and desperation, as the singer comes to a door seeking help, only to leave feeling poor and misunderstood. The phrase “don't the reasons always mean to be pure to another” hints at the possibility of good intentions being misinterpreted or unrecognized by others, adding to the feeling of isolation.
The use of repetition, particularly the line “When we are not so understood, will I find something good”, highlights the struggle to find meaning in a world where communication and empathy are often lacking. The chorus of “open your arms” emphasizes the need for human connection and the healing power of love. The lyrics suggest that even when life leads to harm and pain, the embrace of another can make all the difference.
