McComas later attended college, but soon dropped out to move to Nashville, Tennessee. McComas briefly signed to Mercury Records, before he landed a deal with Lyric Street in 2001, charting the singles "Night Disappear With You" and "I Could Never Love You Enough". In 2003, he landed his first Top 10, "99.9% Sure (I've Never Been Here Before)" and the follow up "You're in My Head", a #21 hit on the country charts. Another single for Lyric Street, "The Middle of Nowhere", fell short of the Top 40, and Lyric Street dropped him not long afterward. He later signed to Katapult Records, where he released Back Up Again, his second album.

So you came back here to find me
Somebody told you I forgot again
So you came back to remind me
But I'm too far gone for all of that
And no you don't come back from where I'm at
Yeah you can tell them that I fell again
But you couldn't pick me up
Tried every trick you carry in your bag
But it still was not enough
Cause I'm too far gone for all of that
Yeah you can put that rabbit back inside your hat
Yeah cause I don't need that
So now I'm sorry but you need to go
Cause I need to be alone
And anything you think I need to know
Well I'm sure I'll find out on my own
Yeah cause I'm too far gone for all of that
No you don't, you don't come back from where I'm at
No you don't, not from where I'm at
The lyrics of Brian McComas's song Too Far Gone convey a sense of despair and resignation. The song is about someone who has hit rock bottom and is struggling to find their way out of it. The first verse suggests that someone has come back to find the singer who has lost their way once again. However, the singer is already beyond help, and there is not much that anyone can do to change their situation.
The lyrics convey a sense of hopelessness and despair that seem to stem from a long battle with addiction or depression. The singer acknowledges that they have fallen once again, but they are not willing to be picked up this time. The second verse reveals that the singer has tried all the tricks that the other person brought to help, but all in vain. They have gone too far down a path where they no longer believe in the possibility of recovery or redemption.
In the final verse, the singer asks the other person to leave them alone as they need to be by themselves. They are no longer interested in anyone trying to help or teach them anything. The singer has come to realize that they have to find their own way out of the darkness. The song's final lines emphasize that there is no coming back from where the singer is, and they have to face their demons alone.
