Embracing an effortless eloquence and cocoa butter smooth persona, the music of Brian McKnight has defined the true meaning of an American soul-man since 1991. Like his spiritual Motown godfathers, this upstate New York native has a velvety voice and silky style that captures the vibe of vintage soul without being old fashion. On his latest disc Ten, that blend can be clearly heard.
While Brian’s aspirations might have seemed like a lofty ambition, the longevity of his career is a testament to the purity of his vision. With the release of Ten, McKnight’s first disc for his new label Warner Bros Records, the Grammy-nominated singer could not be more pleased with the outcome. Without a doubt, the landscape of soul music has gotten younger, but that fact did not hinder McKnight’s creative process.
After 16 million albums sold since his self-titled debut, it would have been too easy for McKnight to simply follow the R&B template of rote romanticism. But on Ten, the artist in him felt the need to be more revealing. Though McKnight has been friends with producers Tim & Bob for over ten years, this is the trio’s first collaboration.
Though Brian has never been the kind of singer/songwriter that one would call political that didn’t stop him from penning “Red, White & Blue,” a heart wrenching ode for the men and women currently at war, teaming up with country star Rascal Flatts.
Currently working on a variety of projects including a talk show and soundtracks for two upcoming Tyler Perry projects, the veteran soul singer could not be happier with the outcome of Ten. For fans of real music, Ten is the perfect addition to the soul cannon.
Let It Snow '98

Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight
Back at ya baby
A little something for ya in '98
Y'all ready fellas
Let's turn it on for them
As a matter of fact, let's make it snow
Ya ready, here we go
[Chorus]
Let it snow, let it snow
But the fire's blazin'
Let it snow, let it snow
But the fire's blazin'
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
It's just another Christmas holiday
Just me and you
The weather's stormy, but we're A-OK
And there's nothing that I'd rather do
Than lay you down beside the fireplace
No where to go
You run out of breath, I start to shake
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
[Chorus]
Come over here
Pretend like I'm the tree, and you are the star
You're all the present that I'll ever need
Just wanna be everywhere that you are
Hear the carolers, the sleigh bells ring
Where's the mistletoe
We feel happiness the season brings
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
[Chorus]
And oh, you are my everything
Won't ya come, won't ya come
God must have sent you down from heaven
[Chorus]
The lyrics to Brian McKnight's song "Let It Snow '98" evoke sentiments of romantic love and holiday cheer. The song opens with a call and response between two male R&B groups, Boyz II Men and Brian McKnight, who proceed to sing in duet throughout the song. The call to "let it snow" is juxtaposed against the warmth of the hearth, "the fire's blazin'," as the two lovers snuggle on a wintry Christmas holiday, content to be with each other, in despite of a winter storm that rages outside.
The chorus repeats the invitation to "let it snow" as a complement to the uplifting and cozy feeling of being in each other's arms. The romantic theme is emphasized in the middle of the song when the lyrics suggest that the female lover is a gift or a star that the male lover is thrilled to be close to. The holiday spirits are referenced in mentions of carolers, sleigh bells, and mistletoe, all elements common to a typical Christmas celebration.
Overall, the lyrics of "Let It Snow '98" are a celebration of love, warmth, and the magic of the holiday season. It evokes nostalgia and joy while offering a modern take on a classic holiday theme.
