In the 1980s, Setzer fronted the popular rockabilly band, Stray Cats. Stray Cats caught America's attention with the 1982 album Built for Speed, which included the two Top Ten hits, Rock This Town (#9) and Stray Cat Strut (#3), as well as with the follow-up 1983 album Rant N Rave, which included the two successful singles (She's) Sexy + 17 (#5), and I Won't Stand In Your Way (#35).
In the 1990s, Setzer led a comeback of sorts for swing music and big band music, when he formed Brian Setzer Orchestra. The band has released 5 albums to date and one live DVD. This group had one hit, Jump, Jive, and Wail around the same time songs like the Cherry Poppin' Daddies Zoot Suit Riot had been received favorably in mainstream America.
Brian Setzer also recorded some solo albums during Stray Cats' break in the 1980s along with some in the 1990s. In 2001 he released an album titled Ignition with his band '68 Comeback Special. A new solo album titled Rockabilly Riot Vol. 1: A Tribute To Sun Records was released on July 26, 2005, in the United States.

Rooster Rock
Brian Setzer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm king cock of the roost
Stay out all night, just drinkin' that moonshine juice
And I don't show the crow till crack of noon
And all the hens go
Coo, coo, cock-a-doodle-do, look at that rooster rock
I said, coo, coo, cock-a-doodle-do, look at that rooster rock
And if another red rooster
Comes a creepin' around my hen
He won't believe the way that I fly into him
And he'll be too chicken to ever cock fight again
And all the hens go
Coo, coo, cock-a-doodle-do, look at that rooster rock
I said, coo, coo, cock-a-doodle-do, look at that rooster rock
Ain't never seen a rooster do such a crazy bop, aha, aha, aha
And all the hens go
Coo, coo, cock-a-doodle-do, look at that rooster rock
Coo, coo, cock-a-doodle-do, look at that rooster rock
Ain't never seen a rooster do such a crazy bop, aha, aha, aha
And all the hens go
Coo, coo, cock-a-doodle-do, look at that rooster rock
I said, coo, coo, cock-a-doodle-do, look at that rooster rock
Ain't never seen a rooster do such a crazy bop, aha, aha, aha, aha
The singer of Brian Setzer's "Rooster Rock" is a male rooster, who takes pride in being the "king cock of the roost" in his barnyard. He stays out all night, drinking "moonshine juice," and doesn't crow until noon, unlike other roosters. The other hens are impressed by his behavior and coo and cluck in admiration. The singer also warns any other red rooster not to mess with his hens. He claims that he will fly into them, and they will be too chicken to ever fight again.
The song is a fun and upbeat portrayal of the barnyard, with the rooster as the central figure. It celebrates his unique personality and approach to life. It also portrays the competitive nature of roosters, who often fight each other to establish dominance in the flock. The lyrics are simple and repetitive, which adds to the catchy nature of the song.
