"Gimme More" was a commercial success with radio stations and digital stores during its pre-singles release. Announced as the lead single from the album, "Gimme More" was first released in Australia on October 6, 2007. It performed well, reaching the top ten on many international charts. "Gimme More" topped Billboard's Canadian chart and reached number three in the US Billboard Hot 100, making it Spears' highest-peaking single in the United States since her 1999 number-one debut "...Baby One More Time". It also peaked at number three in Australia and the United Kingdom. In Australia and the US, the single was certified platinum.

'Gimme More' is taken from Britney's highly anticipated fifth studio album, 'Blackout', which refers to “blocking out negativity and embracing life fully”. @Blissful Nihilism If your term for expressing individualism is "indoctrination" then I fear you're too far gone to even begin having a conversation like this. When Britney became an international pop princess she was only 16 years old.. she was a child herself. I agree that she was sexualized in the media but as she got older she expressed that a lot of the creative ideas for videos, performances, and outfits were hers, and she actually pushed back against her management who wanted to cover her up. Now we don't know that that's true, if it isn't, I absolutely agree that she was taken advantage of, and I wouldn't be surprised.

However that still doesn't change the fact that YOU as a parent are responsible for filtering what your kids see. When I was a kid in the early 2000s everyone loved Hannah Montana, my parents let me watch her shows, listen to her music and even offered to take me to a concert. I wasn't interested because I didn't like her persona, it was too childish. I preferred listening to old school rap and (at the time, lol) Eminem when he was peaking in his career. I was 8 years old and had his music on my iPod Nano. I also loved Avril Lavigne and Ke$ha, all made "inappropriate" music by your standards. Did I grow up to turn into a degenerate? No, did I grow up in a healthy environment where I was allowed to express my individuality through music, art, etc? Absolutely!

As parents we should encourage our children to talk openly about these taboo subjects. I'd rather it be an adult they can trust than one they cannot. It's better to explain things in terms young teens can understand vs sheltering them from everything, and expecting them to conceal their sexuality until they turn 18. That's just not how it works, that's how you breed resentment and cause them to lash out irresponsibly.

There's of course a difference between explaining these things to a CHILD versus a teen, and I'll tell you what, kids did love Britney Spears, but that's back when she was 16 and a child herself. As she grew up she did what any young adult does, explore, share and embody their sexuality. Is it really fair to say that that (something totally NORMAL in human development) should be hidden away from the public eye, that this woman should wear shawls and cover her body? Because you can't seem to comprehend how to have a simple conversation with your children to teach them important life lessons that they will carry into adulthood?

@Alberto Dominguez I beg to differ. Britney dominated from 1998-2011. The Baby One More Time album was a best seller, so was Oops I did it again. Her Britney album blew up immediatley because america's sweetheart at the time (aka britney) became a sex symbol so you know that america will capitalize on that. In The Zone is totally one of her best albums, best seller too and it has her most succesful song, toxic, on it. Blackout was a major hit, everyone had their eyes on britney all the time and at the time the album released it was EVERYWHERE because people thought Britney went insane, when in reality it was just the paparazii exploiting her and not realizing that holy shit...maybe everything was their fault. Circus went platinum, has her 4th biggest hit on it aka womanizer and finally we have femme fatale, hold it against me, one of her most succesful songs was HUGE and when I mean huge I'm talking literally LARGE. It was everywhere. Same with Till The World Ends which was everywhere mostly because of the Kesha and Nicki remix but the solo version did pretty well too. I wanna go was also a big hit, overall the album had a lot of hits. I'd say that after 2011 Britney was past her prime, however that does not mean she still wasnt successful. Before you say britney flopped after 2004, check your facts. The blackout album and all the albums after blackout were very commercially succesfull and topped the charts for a very long time. Don't bash other women because you wanna protect your fave, just simply prove your point by not calling another artist a flop and just...prove that your fave isnt a flop...it's that easy. I love this album and Britney worked super hard on it from start to finish. What's unsettling to me is each song exudes sex, loneliness, and severe depression.. Even the album cover art and booklet give it the vibe of chaos and trouble.
She was really in her feels when she put it together and I think that's why the album is so damn good because she really gave it her all when she had nothing left to give during that time of her life.
