Someone Like You
Brooklyn Duo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That you found a girl and you're married now
I heard that your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you
Old friend, why are you so shy?
It ain't like you to hold back
Or hide from the lie
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
I hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me, it isn't over
Nevermind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you two
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said:
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
Nothing compares, no worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes they're memories made
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?
Nevermind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don't forget me, I beg
I remembered you said:
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
Nevermind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don't forget me, I beg
I remembered you said:
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
The lyrics of Brooklyn Duo's cover of Someone Like You, originally performed by Adele, tell a story of unrequited love and nostalgia. The singer hears that her former lover has moved on and gotten married, but she still finds herself thinking about him. She expresses regret over not being able to give him everything he needed and wonders why he seems so distant now. Though she knows she shouldn't, she shows up unannounced in hopes of reconnecting with him. Despite knowing that their relationship is over, she can't help but wish for someone like him to come back into her life.
The song perfectly captures the feeling of longing for a lost love and the sense of helplessness that comes with it. The singer's vulnerability is palpable, and the lyrics are relatable to anyone who has experienced heartbreak. The repeated line "sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead" is especially poignant, evoking the complex emotions that come with ending a relationship.
Overall, Someone Like You is a beautifully crafted song that showcases the power of Adele's voice and songwriting. The Brooklyn Duo's interpretation adds a haunting quality to the original that makes it all the more touching.

Love the part in 2:17 when the piano and cello switch roles and the piano takes over the melody while the cello supports.
