This is by far THE best musical episode of any show. The songs were purposeful. Each characters conflict played out through gorgeously written songs. The key is the imperfection too. They aren't professional singers (for the most part) and they aren't singing covers for fun. It was just people singing out there feelings and i always loved it no matter what

Buffy’s portrayal of depression is one of the best I’ve ever seen on a television show. Even just how the episode starts with everyone going about their day getting ready and Buffy just lies in bed looking at her alarm and in the shop she just draws all over her notebook alone whilst every one else is busy.

What's genius about this episode is that it could have just been a musical episode with no substance whatsoever and that was it. But instead, it turned into one of the most important episodes of season 6 with a lot of revelations and a way for the audience and the fans to actually enter the mind of all the characters and really understand what they were going through. Joss Whedon is a freaking genius.

I agree, also Sarah Michelle Geller actually didn't really know how to sing before this episode and they were just going to dub over her. However, once she found out that this would be the episode where Buffy revealed to everyone that she thought she was in heaven before being brought back, she started taking voice lessons so that she'd be the one to deliver that line.

The way the storylines all come together in this episode is what people often forget to write when they're writing a tv show. It's all just random songs, no meaning behind them and this episode almost every song has a deep meaning. I will forever rewatch this show since it's still one of the best around

This episode is just pure genius for how they set it up. At this point in the series the majority of characters are dealing with things that they would NEVER openly speak about to each other. So by introducing this curse/spell a situation is now created where they all have no choice but to sing about their feelings and make whatever it is that’s going on inside known to everyone. It’s a brilliant way of writing an episode that’s not only fun but has a lot of substance to it!

I remember the first time this episode came out, me and my family watched it, the second Buffy started singing my dad paused the TV and we all turned to each other like WHAT THE HELL?!?? I wish I could go back to that moment, we were utterly awestruck! Buffy has been written by Joss, but he sold the right to the idea before doing anything with it. That's why the movie was so bad. They didn't understand the concept and the heart of the story. Joss on the other hand made a masterpiece out of it, since it was his heart and concept all along.

Ya, I think this was made before autotune so when I listen to it now it sounds off, but I think it's just cause it's not autotune. It's kind of cool that she doesn't belt every note out perfectly and do crazy loud and long perfect pitch like everything now that's just fake. If everything is always perfect, perfection loses all meaning. It's better to just have a little bit of skill and practice and do it honestly if you can.

Kiedy oglądałam ten odcinek i zdziwiłam się, że czołówka się różni, a potem Buffy zaczęła śpiewać i szczena mi opadła, dalej oglądałam z ostrożnym sceptyzmem, ale wyszło, jak się okazało genialnie :D xDD Nic tak nie oddaje emocji niekiedy, jak muzyka. A ten odcinek był pełen emocji.

Or how Joss took 6 months to write it and had talked it through w/ producers and cast first (thus giving Michelle and Alyson minimal singing at their requests?) Like, I don't disbelieve it, but I don't understand how it all matches up
