All My Friends
Bugs In Amber Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All my friends have dwindled down to counting the fingers on my one hand it's so hard to tell,
What is real who is who and where they've been and what they plan on taking from me in the end.

All I am reflection and a product of what I've seen and what may have happened to me,
All I've learned taking on the habits from choices of two stories I'll
Write down my own.

Random sermons I maybe tried to listen to too well
Making lifetimes full of promises from what I understood.

Afraid of a name - or book of reason for outcasts to -take on some shame.
For nothing more than moral fists shoved down their throats
Submission to a way of life

Random sermons taken much to heavily can fan
Just enough fuel for a fire burn a martyr for the cause

Afraid of a name - or book of reason for outcasts accepting some shame
Invisible strong arm of one subconscious under-lying bill of right
Wrong or right

Arms length too short to measure around another neck stand off
We go on just depending on our own regard for life.

Overall Meaning

In Bugs In Amber's song All My Friends, the singer reflects on how all their friends have dwindled down to just a handful of people they can trust. It's hard to decipher who is real and who wants to take advantage of them in the end. The lyrics suggest that the singer's experiences and situations have shaped their identity and have made them the person they are today. They have learned from the choices they have made and are now ready to write their own story.

The next stanza talks about how random sermons maybe listened to too well, leading to a lifetime full of promises that are hard to keep. The lyrics suggest that sometimes taking on too much can lead to burnout or being a martyr for the cause. The singer is afraid of accepting some shame associated with being cast out of society due to not following a certain moral code. They acknowledge that there may be an invisible strong arm underlying what is right and wrong.

The final stanza talks about how sometimes our own individualism can lead to a standoff with others. We are often forced to depend on our own regard for life and must navigate tricky situations on our own. Overall, the song is a reflection on how our experiences shape who we are and how we interact with others.
