The Uglies have earned residencies at several venues in the Mid Atlantic region, and have been spreading their sound at live shows around the country since 2009. Their music and popularity has organically spread throughout the East Coast, and 2011 and beyond will see Bumpin’ Uglies touring new cities around the nation, spreading their trademark laid back yet precise live performances. The Uglies have the mettle to carry the torch of the reggae/ska/rock genre into the future; to be the band that builds its own success simply by delivering memorable music from their souls; music which listeners can relate to and fully embrace.
Bumpin’ Uglies released their debut LP, Free Candy, in June of 2011. Not since Sublime was selling 40 oz. to Freedom out of the back of their van has an independent LP surprised the listening public with such well-crafted and prolific sounds. Free Candy dares to feel accessible and raw in a rootsy sense, with real, sparkling talent and versatility giving the entire album excellent shape and allure throughout. Lead singer and song writer, Brandon Hardesty proudly claims that, “Free Candy is music for people with real lives and real problems. Most of the songs are based on experiences I’ve had throughout my twenties, so I think there are themes in the songs that most people can relate to.”

...pletely dedicated to the act of getting some
I formed a plan in my head
Devious in nature shooting fish
In a barrel using dynamite to make sure
The plan succeeds; we had a big ass bag of weed
And a trip to the liquor store took care of everything we need
Bulletproof plan for the night was in storeAn empty house is an opportunity you can't ignore
Rookie mistake, but it seemed a good idea at the time
Negative outcome never even came across my mind
Chose to ignore the advice that had been given to me
Given the chance I might do it all again, you'd best believe
Cuz I put one foot in front of the other
As I walk away from mistakes I've made
There's no point in reminiscing over all your bad decions
Because they are the most fun to make
And I put one foot in front of the other
As I walk away from mistakes I've made
There's no point in reminiscing over all your bad decions
Because they are the most fun to make
So we told a couple friends who told a couple more
Pretty soon there was a tidal wave crashing through the door
A natural disaster that left carnage in its path
Immeasurable damage but let's try to do the math
There was a blender in the toilet and a couch out in the yard
A coffee maker missing and a violated car
Woe is me, please forgive the ignorance of youth
Bad idea, granted. I require proof
Rookie mistake, but it seemed a good idea at the timeNegative outcome never even came across my mind
Because they are the most fun to make
Story ends, but I made it out alive
Seems that hardships turn into good stories with time
Summer spent painting houses in the heat
Rookie mistake, one I'd gladly repeat
The Bumpin Uglies song "One Foot" is a reflective and nostalgic look back at a wild night from the singer's youth. The lyrics reminisce about the naivete and impulsiveness of teenage years - when planning to smoke weed, drink alcohol and throw a party in an empty house seemed like a foolproof plan. The singer acknowledges the foolishness in their choices, but still sees the value in making mistakes and learning from them. The song's chorus - "I put one foot in front of the other as I walk away from mistakes I've made / there's no point in reminiscing over all your bad decisions because they are the most fun to make" is an ode to the universal experience of being young and impulsive, but also the ability to grow and move on from past mistakes.
The lyrics describe a simple and seemingly harmless plan to enjoy a night of getting drunk and high, and the realization that the plan did not go well, resulting in chaos and mayhem. They invited a few friends, who in turn invited others, and soon strangers trashed the house. The verses contain vivid images of destruction ("a blender in the toilet," "a couch out in the yard," "a violated car"), but the chorus remains upbeat, reminding listeners that even though these moments may seem disastrous in hindsight, they're often the ones we remember and laugh about the most later in life.
