Kalemba
Buraka Som Sistema Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue

Quando eu entro o palco se move
Talento aqui chove
Claro que o povo me ouve
Sou Pongolove
Estou com a Buraka
Abro a fronteira
Não digo lixo
Nem digo asneira
No microfone sou a primeira
Vou levantar a minha bandeira

Angola o mundo cobiça
Mas é o povo que te enfeitiça
A Pong no beat capricha
Porque sou rara tipo welwitchia
Sou mesmo eu a dama ngaxi muito agressiva
Me derrubar nem com macumba
Sou criativa

A Buraka é que está a cuiar
Sai fora
Pongolove é que esta a bater
Vão se embora

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
São piada
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Novo esquema

Wegue
Wegue wegue wegue
Wegue
Wegue wegue wegue

Rima pesada
Tipo embondeiro
Eu faço o que eu quero
Canto para Angola
E para o mundo inteiro
No kuduro impero

Sou palanca negra gigante
Sigo a passada de Njinga Mbandi
Sigo a corrente do Dande

Logro o feitiço de Tomé Grande

Por no mapa Oxaena
Terra de grandes nomes do semba
Arraso tipo kalemba
Sou de Angola como a mulemba

Mano jukula
(Kimbundu)
Mambo exclusivo
Toque de Angola
(Kimbundu)

A Buraka é que está a cuiar
Sai fora
Pongolove é que esta a bater
Vão se embora

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
São piada
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Novo esquema

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue

A Buraka é que está a cuiar
Sai fora
Pongolove é que esta a bater
Vão se embora

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
São piada
Wegue, wegue wegue wegue
Novo esquema

A Buraka é que está a cuiar
Sai fora
Pongolove é que esta a bater
Vão se embora

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Buraka Som Sistema's "Kalemba" featuring Pongo Love are primarily in Portuguese, with some words in Kimbundu, a Bantu language spoken in Angola. The song begins with the repetition of "Wegue," which is a word that serves as a call to action or a dance move in Kuduro, a type of electronic dance music that originates in Angola.

Pongo Love first enters the song, stating confidently that when she enters the stage, the people listen and her talent shines. She proclaims her connection to Angola and her partnership with Buraka, a Portuguese electronic dance music group. She pays homage to her African roots by opening borders and raising her flag. Pongo Love focuses on positivity in her lyrics, staying away from any profanity or negativity. She emphasizes how Angola is a special place that has enchanted the world, and she is proud to be from there.

The chorus repeats the call to action "Wegue," signaling a new scheme or a new game, and that the Buraka group is in charge, but Pongo Love is the one who is beating and shining. Her lyrics are full of cultural references, such as mentioning Njinga Mbandi, a warrior queen of the Mbundu people, and Tomé Grande, a legendary sorcerer. Pongo Love boasts her creativity and confidence as a woman, stating that nothing can bring her down. She ends the song repeating "Wegue," solidifying her strong presence in the music scene.

Searched the full translation online. I speak fluent portuguese, but Pong uses a sharp angolian accent which im not used to. Take the translation with a grain of salt, some of it isn't right.

When I enter the stage moves
talent here rains
of course the people hear me
only pongolove
I touch Buraka open the border
I don't say garbage or I say blunder
in the microphone i am the first one I will raise my flag
Angola, the world covets
but it's the people that decorate you
a pongo in the beat cabriça
because I am a rare welwitschia type
It's just me, the very aggressive Ngaxi lady
drop me not even with macumba
I'm creative

The buraka is that this cuiar, get out!
Pongolove is this hit, go away!

Wegue, wegue wegue wegue

Heavy rhyme, baobab type
I do what I want
singing for Angola and the whole world
no kuduro impero
I am giant sable I follow Njinga Mbandi's step
follow the chain of Dande
trick the great tombé charm

por on the map Oxaena
land of big names in semba
kalemba-type drag | i am from Angola as a mulemba

bro jukula
(kimbundu)
exclusive mambo
touch of Angola
(kimbundu)

The buraka is that this cuiar, get out!
Pongolove is this hit, go away!
