O Holy Night
Céline Dion Lyrics
O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appeared and the soul felt it's worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine
O night divine
O night, oh night divine
Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains He shall break, for the slave is our brother
And in His Name, all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise his holy name
Christ is the Lord!
Their name forever praise we
Noel, Noel
O night, O night Divine
Noel, Noel
O night, O night Divine
Noel, Noel
O Holy night

"O Holy Night" ("Cantique de Noël") is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem "Minuit, chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau (1808–1877). Cappeau, a wine merchant and poet, had been asked by a parish priest to write a Christmas poem. Unitarian minister John Sullivan Dwight, editor of Dwight's Journal of Music, created a singing edition based on Cappeau's French text in 1855. So far, you're right. I'm checking other versions and this is the most solemn and probably most faithful to the original.

I remember the first time I heard this song, I was just struggling with life and everything was hitting me... And this unexpectedly came on, I'm already a fan of Celine so I turned it up and listened. Boy oh boy, that was the best drive home. I cried so hard and I knew that Jesus had heard me. There's something about when she hits that last note, that it's like her voice reaches the heavens. I can't explain it, but it touches my soul. Merry Christmas everyone, we will make it through the rest of this year together.
