Candlebox was known for an explosive live show and throughout their 8 year career, they toured with such bands as Living Colour, The Flaming Lips, Our Lady Peace, Rush, Henry Rollins, and Metallica. They were also a featured band on the main-stage at Woodstock '94 and made repeat live performances on the David Letterman show.
They are best known for the singles "Change", "You", "Far Behind" and "Simple Lessons". "Far Behind" entered Billboard's Top 20 in July of 1993 and didn't drop off the charts until January of 1994. The videos for "Far Behind" and "You" were in seemingly perpetual rotation on MTV and became two of the most requested videos of 1993.
Drummer Scott Mercado left the band in 1997 and was replaced by former Pearl Jam member Dave Krusen. Krusen later left the band in 1999 and was replaced by Shannon Larkin of Ugly Kid Joe. Bardi Martin also left the band that year, and was replaced by Rob Reddick (formerly of Dig). The band split in year 2000.
As of 2005, singer Kevin Martin is currently recording and performing as the leader of The Hiwatts. Peter Klett is currently recording and performing as the leader of redlightmusic.
In 2006, Candlebox has reunited with their original line-up. They went on a three-month North American tour beginning on July 1st of the same year. This marks their first collaboration since 1996.
In 2008, Candlebox released their fourth studio album called "Into the sun". This meant their return since 1998's Happy Pills. Also, they released a Live album called "Alive in Seattle" which includes tracks from all their past albums.
In 2009, Kevin Martin (along with Sean Hennesy, Candlebox's guitarist) helped form the super-group The Gracious Few with three of the members of the band LIVE. Functioning as lead singer, the band went on to release a self-titled album which accompanied an extensive tour. Though LIVE has reformed with a new lead singer, more material from The Gracious Few is said to be released in the future
A Stone's Throw Away
Candlebox Lyrics

Did you wake up to the sound of pouring rain?
Fading days of blue rush past your eyes
Would you lose yourself in someone else's vein?
Or should you shout your mind out when the loss began?
High until you washed away
It's all the same
I realized it through this song
Do you feel I'm only someone you could never ever know?
In it all you'll find, you see you're not that far from me
So walk and hold your head up high
A stone's throw away
I feel right now like I felt way back then
The center of my life I lost it all
Never ever knew how much I'd loved until you left, you're gone
Fell right now like I was chasing you the same way
High until you washed away
It's all the same
I realized it through this song
Sing out loud and call your name
Do you feel the only someone you could never ever know?
In it all you find, you see you're not that far from me
To walk and hold your head up high
A stone's throw away
I would like this stone to roll
High until I washed it all away
It's all the same
I realized it through this song
Sing out loud and call my name
Do you feel the only someone you could never ever know
In it all you find
You see you're not that far from me to walk and hold your head up high
A stone's throw away
You're just a stone's throw away
Never knew how much I'd loved until you're gone
Never knew how much I'd love
Until you're gone away
Feel right now like I felt way back then
The center of my life I lost it, lost it all
Never knew how much I'd loved until you're gone
Never knew how much I'd loved until you're gone away
A stone's throw away
The lyrics to Candlebox's song A Stone's Throw Away are filled with emotional resonance and poetic imagery. The song is fundamentally about the pain of loss and the struggle to come to terms with it. The first line, "Did I feel this way back then?" suggests a kind of wistful nostalgia for a time before the loss occurred, while the line "The center of my life I lost it all" highlights just how central and important the lost loved one was.
The song explores the different ways people cope with loss. The lines "Would you lose yourself in someone else's vein?" and "Or should you shout your mind out when the loss began?" hint at the idea of self-destruction or trying to bury the pain, while the phrase "high until you washed away" speaks to the coping mechanism of drugs or alcohol. However, the song ultimately offers a message of hope: "In it all you'll find, you see you're not that far from me / So walk and hold your head up high / A stone's throw away." The idea is that while the loss may feel insurmountable, it is still possible to keep moving forward and to find connection and community with others who have been similarly affected.
Overall, A Stone's Throw Away is a powerful and poignant song about the universal experience of loss and the human capacity for resilience in the face of it.
