Will
Canopy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The decision left for me
Still attached to reality
Weak and fragile we will be
Passed by, there for all to see

Your perception, will be mine
Undone, brought through time
My strangled will, forevermore until I'm free

Moments in mud left for all to see
The soar is open wide

Will
Moments in mud left for all to see
The soar is open wide

Falling under apathy
The world as my will
Further drawn to infinity
Inside the end I will be here

Will
Moments in mud left for all to see
Will
The soar is open wide

Closer, I'm closer as the leaves fall too early
Left my eyes, left my eyes as my will was bent to rust
Closer, I'm closer as my future is spelled in lies
Numb fire, numb fire as the sun was turned to ice

All sights unseen
Numbed and relieved
This, my end

Closer, I'm closer as the leaves fall too early
Left my eyes, left my eyes as my will was bent to rust
Closer, I'm closer as my future is spelled in lies
Numb fire, numb fire as the sun was turned to ice

Skies cried for what was to come
We're emptied and dried by a concept of lies
Will try to make it undone
A structureless plan controlled by a dice

Will

Time dies a moment in bliss
Stifled by the dream you created
Now we have come to this
The part were all your deeds are degraded

Will

Shapeless forms drift from the one weight
Waves, the waves again
Displaced drama unfold between barriers of dust
Evergrowing conflict, perspective denied
Dynamics, alternate ways
As you are.

Will shaped, all is lost
Will shaped, all is lost

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Canopy's "Will" are enigmatic, with the singer weighing a troublesome decision. Perhaps the decision will have dire repercussions, or perhaps it represents a moment of reconciliation with reality. The line "passed by, there for all to see" suggests that no matter what decision the singer makes, there will be clear consequences that cannot be hidden from view. The song addresses themes of identity, loss of agency, and existential confusion.

The chorus, repeated multiple times throughout the track, features the word "will." In this context, the word suggests both a sense of personal agency and a lack of control. The lyrics reference the singer's "strangled will," implying that their ability to exert control over their own fate has been hindered or even eliminated. The repetition of the word "will" may also suggest that the singer is questioning the concept of free will itself.

The song's final lines continue to address existential themes, with the concept of "will" being "shaped" and all "lost." This might suggest that the singer's decision in the opening lines has already been made and that the outcome has been predetermined. The track is marked by its stark sonic palette, with discordant guitar riffs and a slow, plodding rhythm underscoring the sense of confusion and despair expressed in the lyrics.

When TMBTE dropped I was having my own lil synopsis on Insta towards the lyrics and I said this when I heard Euclid for the first time:

“Can you imagine how strongly someone would have felt for you in order to write their heart on paper? But then absolutely DRENCH it with every inch of love they have for you that has so much fucking pain when you leave their life? Every verse is the extra energy needed to finally let you go, you don’t see life the same way like it was with you ever again
How fucking haunting is that?
Recorded forever
The man’s soul is what we’re hearing”

Putting the past and present together, these songs make all the more sense now especially with what you could call a coincidence, but more like an Easter egg of phrases like;
Blacklit paradise”
“Ancient canopies

The chorus to Euclid was like a nail in the coffin, cutting ties with BC and becoming someone new in ST - there’s so many examples of this; at the end of Ascensionism “you make me want to disappear” and a mask can do that! Ugh it’s far too beautiful not to admire the depth it goes

“For me
It's still the autumn leaves
These ancient canopies
That we used to lay beneath
No, by now
The night belongs to you
This bough has broken through
I must be someone new”

Soooo many metaphors in that one verse and I weep for it, WEEP!!

What a an absolute lyrical genius albeit love tortured man - I feel like this was the key to a lot of ST songs and where their meaning was birthed - minus the lore about the dream Vessel had by being visited by the diety Sleep etc

While the excitement of this discovery makes me love ST more, I wish I stayed away from media trying to pry off their masks.
I’ll confess, I’m only half guilty considering this song, “Will” is absolutely beautiful and I don’t think I would ever have found it on my own, but this is as far as I’ll go

When it comes to anonymous bands you’ll always have curious people, Slipknot is a great example of this - I’ll forever keep this secret in my corner of the world and enjoy their early work in private - it’s a gift and it should be cherished as such.
It reminds me of Tobey McGuire’s Spider-Man and how the people on the train saw his face but chose to keep his secret because they needed him, much like we need Sleep Token.
Vessel has said “nothing lasts forever” which could mean a multitude of things, be it the lifespan of the band or the rumours of their identity getting too much.
Soon floods of people will arrive like their own personal plague - the irony.

I hope it never comes to this. Even being here feels like a shameful sin.
There is no glory is revealing someone’s identity against their will - none whatsoever.

I’ve never connected to a band’s songs so deeply to the point I can feel my body shift in breathing, heartbeat, tingles and adopting the songs to my own situations with such a velvety voice captivating me - singing about love, loss, depression, but also growth, healing and new beginnings

I will forever follow them

Edit to add*
Looked up the meaning of “Euclid” and it’s less common definition is “copy of the same” — faaaar out
A prodigy that’s blossomed right before our eyes - truly demonstrating it is, and always will be about the meaning, music and deeply buried message.
