(Neon Gold) The song has catchy indie stylings and features the beloved vintage Juno-106 keyboard that gives the production such a comforting retro vibe. (Arjan Writes) It's a scorcher bound to make your dance-infused taste buds sizzle. The music swarms with outside-of-the-box tendencies, jam-packed full of life, energy and unusual yet fantastic sounds. (Clixie)
Recording original, high-quality songs is one thing, but the ability to perform them live with passion, energy and a great, unique sound is a completely different beast. Capital Cities have both down to a science. (The Chuckness) They controlled the audience with addictive beats that caused strangers to dance with each other. Everyone sang along throughout the night regardless if they were first-time listeners. (Campus Circle)
In 2008, Ryan Merchant found Sebu Simonian on craigslist in his search for a collaborator. The two formed a composing team, and in 2010, they began producing material for Capital Cities. The band released their debut EP last summer and saw their lead single 'Safe and Sound' climb to #2 on Hype Machine and hit #1 on CMJ's A&R unsigned spin chart.
Capital Cities have played sold-out shows in their hometowns of Los Angeles and San Francisco and embarked on a successful mini tour of the East Coast and Canada last October. In November, after reaching #1 on South American radio, the band flew to Lima, Perú to play in front of 1000 fans. They just headlined the W Hotel New Year's Eve party in San Francisco and are now back in L.A. as 987fm's January Resident Artist. Look for them in Austin, Texas at this year's SXSW.

A lost soul
STAYIN' ALIVE
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm,
I've been kicked around since I was born
And now it's all right, it's OK
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York times effect on man
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breaking and everybody shaking
And were stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive
Well now, I get low and I get high
And if I can't get either, I really try
Got the wings of heaven on my shoes
I'm a dancing man and I just can't lose
You know it's all right, it's ok
I'll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York times effect on man
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin and everybody shakin
And were stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive
Life going nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah
Life going nowhere, somebody help me
Somebody help me, yeah.
Stayin' alive

Jon Watts
Ok, I've seen many people posting their opinions on whether or not this is better than the original. Here's my two cents. This band did a cover of an incredibly popular song, one that could easily define an era of music. Songs like that have, and deserve, a lot of respect. I'm fairly confident Capital Cities is aware of that, and instead of engaging in debates of who did it best, I'm confident they'll give all credit to the Bee Gees. I'm also confident they wouldn't do a cover of a song if they didn't hold it in high regard. To each their own for preferences, but as a musician, I can sit back and enjoy both for what they are.
Peace and love, all

I had to log in just to applaud you for this comment. Another point, a good cover is (usually) defined as being one of two things: completely different from the original, or just flat out better than the original. I think we all can agree this is a case of the former. Took a disco song, and threw it into 2016 without ruining its essence. Honestly the Gibbs are all probably proud and honored to know people still love their music enough to cover it nowadays. Great song, Great cover. Zero complaints. Now lets listen some more.

Well said. I really appreciate how much of a different vibe the Capital Cities cover has. It makes both versions feel like very separate works of art. While clearly, as you mentioned the Bee Gees deserve all the credit for writing it. But I find the differences between the two make it easy to appreciate each for what they are as opposed to feeling the compelling need to contrast them.

couldn't have said it better.

@Nicolas Chiakulas 4 years later and I still have to come back to remind you of how cringe your comment is hahahahahahhahahahaha.

Five years late, but well said.

Alguien tiene que detener esto, no es posible que esta banda siga sacando covers tan fenomenales de canciones tan buenas.
