1. Captives is a hardcore punk band from Cincinnati, Ohio.
2. Captives are an alternative, garage rock band from the United Kingdom.
3. Captives is an alternative rock band from Eagle Mountain, Utah. On Captives' debut EP these homegrown boys from Utah successfully meld post-hardcore with alternative rock while even throwing in a little old school Brand New era emo. While listening it’s easy to pick up on their rock roots, but the further into a track you get the more layers start to unfold. A lulling baseline might kickstart a song, but by its end emotionally draining vocals are being shouted, eclipsing your first impression and morphing it into an almost transcendental experience of pain and whirling guitar riffs.

I knew that it would fall through anyway.
I'll try to look past this mess you've made under your breath, speaking so only few can hear.
This won't help you conquer me my dear.
You said, "
I will never let you fail".
I lack the truth, god covered my eyes said I'd forget you.
Look at how far we all have come.
This weight has never felt so light.
Once again I'll sleep alone tonight.
Your face is always on display.
I'll brave through another day unfulfilled and broken, this sin we lay soaking in.
You said, "
I'm so devoted to you".
I believe in the burning of these temples and the spotting of these hands.
You said "
I've never felt better than you".
I breed in vain, my vices will put yours to shame.
What's one more night?
What's one more ceiling?
you've seen a thousand.
Your words are bleeding.
Aching and thirsting with unrest, waiting for your next chance to undress.
You turned out like the rest.
The song "Ugly" by Captives depicts a one-sided, toxic love that is full of broken promises, lies, and manipulation. The lyrics suggest that the singer feels trapped in the situation, unable to break free from their lover's grasp. They have been falsely promised of never failing, but the truth is that they lack sincerity and cannot live up to these words. The singer has been living in a mess created by their lover, all while hiding their emotions from others. They feel broken and unfulfilled, yet their lover continues to display their face as if everything is still okay. The singer is left to suffer alone, with their vices ultimately putting their lover's to shame.
Throughout the song, there is a distinct feeling of numbness and unrest conveyed. The singer's emotions have surrendered, leaving them feeling empty and light. Despite the toxicity of the relationship, the singer is still waiting for their next chance to impress their lover, suggesting a toxic cycle of codependency. The lyrics suggest that the singer has been unfulfilled for a long time, and ultimately feels like they are just another person to their lover, who has turned out to be just like the rest.
Overall, the song speaks to the experience of being trapped in a toxic relationship, struggling to break free and feeling powerless to the control of another. It depicts the emotional turmoil and confusion that comes with being in such a situation, and its lyrics and emotions may resonate with many who have experienced similar situations in their own lives.
