Scourged Ghoul Undead
Carach Angren Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Little white coffin lowered into the ground
Parents screaming, desperate, profound
The clock struck twelve and the family went home
Little did they know what horrors were about to come

Days of sorrow passed by
Tears outweighing stone
Feeling all alone
Their beloved son, now cold, bound underground
There is no day without grief
Death! You remorseless thief
Bring back our son

Countless thoughts and prayers
Only met by more nightmares!
All defied in denial of Death
He comes back in their dreams at night
To wake them, reminding that he died

Black cats scratching at the white memorial plaque
Their howling increasingly echoes forth and back
Coffin-flies dig in and worms voraciously devour
A crack of lightning striking into the chapel's tower

Thumping, throbbing, pounding, sounding from inside
That which should be dead slipped away this very night
In disarray and ruin his little grave was found
As if he crept out of a blanket made of burial ground

It was an unreal sight
How the boy walked back home that night
Risen from a sepulchral abyss
Dragging forth in rigor mortis
Mother kneeled in disbelief
For she could not conceive
The return of her son
Her grief undone
Her nightmare had just begun

Liquid brains oozing from his nose
Hatching vermin worming through his head
Draped in filthy graveyard clothes
Scourged ghoul, undead

Scourged ghoul, undead
Scourged ghoul, undead

It was a sickening scene
Mother uttered one more scream
She was thirstily bitten in the neck
Her blood absorbed in rotten crud
Tears bathed her eyes in utter grief
Her heart collapsed in disbelief

From the womb to the tomb and back again
Once a son of light now a creature in the night
Grunting, moaning, groaning and gnawing off her face
Eaten alive in her dear son's embrace

Liquid brains oozing from his nose
Hatching vermin worming through his head
Draped in filthy graveyard clothes
Scourged ghoul, undead

Liquid brains oozing from his nose
Hatching vermin worming through his head

Draped in filthy graveyard clothes
The return of the dead

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Scourged Ghoul Undead" by Carach Angren paint a vivid and harrowing picture of grief and horror in the face of death. The song opens with the image of a little white coffin being lowered into the ground, symbolizing the tragic loss of a child. The parents are depicted as desperate and profound in their grief, highlighting the immense pain of losing a loved one. As the clock strikes twelve and the family leaves, there is a foreshadowing of the dark events about to unfold.

The narrative unfolds with the family experiencing days filled with sorrow, feeling isolated and consumed by their grief. The lyrics demand the return of their son, challenging Death as a remorseless thief who has stolen their happiness. The parents' thoughts and prayers are met with nightmares, with Death haunting them in their dreams as a reminder of their loss. The imagery of black cats scratching at the memorial plaque and coffin-flies feeding on the remains further amplifies the macabre atmosphere.

The song takes a chilling turn as it describes the resurrection of the boy from his grave. The once beloved son returns as a grotesque figure, with liquid brains oozing from his nose and vermin infesting his body. The horror escalates as he attacks his mother, biting her in the neck and consuming her blood. The imagery of the mother's heart collapsing in disbelief and her ultimate demise at the hands of her undead son is gut-wrenching and unnerving.

The lyrics culminate in a scene of grotesque transformation, as the son, now a scourged ghoul, devours his mother in an embrace of death. The final lines emphasize the return of the dead, wrapping up the haunting tale of grief, loss, and the macabre cycle of life and death. Through eerie and graphic imagery, Carach Angren delves into the depths of horror and despair, painting a disturbing portrait of the supernatural and the grotesque.

I love the pulsating bass line throughout the song, it's like blood pumping or something.

Absolutely what an incredible and power packed way to start an album. Carach Angren is just going right ahead.

@Trish156

My ears. Such a blissful sound

@Zinetha

This album just went #1 on the official album chart in Finland (most albums sold that week). Finns love metal and metalheads love purchasing whole albums instead of just songs, but this is still a rare thing to happen...

I just came here to see what the fuss is about. I consider myself a metalhead, but I listen to many different genres of music. My favourite bands currently are Moonspell, Candlemass, Katatonia, Paradise Lost, Opeth In This Moment and SlipKnoT (Idgf what you think of them). This was pretty good, I'm not surprised people like this and want the album. But to the extent of being the 1st on the album chart? A little bit. Not as surprised as I was before listening, but still.

Suomi!

@horrormoviemetalfan8642

@@frosmane9041 I have been into them since Lammendam was new and years before Infieelamsterdam videos talking about Carach Angren. I'm one of the old fans from way back in the day.
