Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Carl Doy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying

But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Carl Doy's song Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! depict a cosy scene inside a warm home during a cold winter night. The first verse sets the contrast between the unpleasant weather outside and the warmth of the fire inside the house. The second verse portrays the singer's readiness to weather the storm, with a cheerful attitude towards popping corn and dimming the lights. The chorus repeats the title phrase, emphasising the singer's desire for snow to keep falling and creating a serene atmosphere.

The third verse highlights the bittersweet moment of saying goodbye to a loved one while knowing they will have to brave the bad weather to go home. The lyrics express the singer’s wish that their partner would hold them tight to keep them safe and warm during the journey. The final verse refers again to the fire and the goodbye, but the singer's focus is on the eternal power of their love. The song's lyrics fuse together elements of winter weather with themes of love and warmth, making it a perfect winter's night anthem.

The N Note

What a beautiful arrangement. The way he brings the melody across from the trombones to the saxes and to the trumpets, it's simply amazing. If only there were more arrangers like Goodwin...

The first trumpet is absolutely incredible.

If you don't have a high note trumpet player, forget it. Nothing sounds worse than badly intonated high trumpet.

Or you can just take it down an octave

Won't sound as good

that a high B no?

Gonya

@ApplePie IS GUD that won’t go well with the other trumpets playing above the lead line. This chart requires a strong lead player, so I’d see it more suited for college as opposed to high school in most situations.
