He is best known for playing Apollo Creed in the Rocky series of films. He also played Dillon in Predator, Chubbs Peterson in Happy Gilmore and Little Nicky, and played a very frugal fictionalized version of himself in the television series Arrested Development.
With regards to a recording career, it appears that during his 1980's heyday, someone coaxed this New Orleans native into a music vocal booth to record some tunes, most notably the ballad, "You Ought To Be With Me", along with a few disco-fied dance tunes. Chart-wise there was very little American success, although across the Atlantic, there was some minor sales rumblings -- though not enough to make Mr. Weathers a musical household name. His singing style can be compared to some of the lesser-known soul singers of the 70's and 80's.
Carl Weathers, as a singer, joins other film and TV stars -- namely Bette Davis, Billy Dee Williams, Gregory Hines, John Travolta, Debbie Allen, Larry Hagma, Regis Philbin, Nia Peeples and Jasmine Guy, among many, many others -- in the trivia record books as trying their voices at pop music with moderate to minimal successes.
Singers sometimes prove they can act, but rarely does the adverse come to pass. Their recordings usually become novelty hits at best -- the stuff of campy legend.
God bless Apollo Creed and his legendary physique!!
