Dashboard Jesus
Carly Pearce Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The sun's goin' down on those little white lines
There's a whole lot of homesick, ridin' shotgun on the passenger side
Oh, and what's up ahead is not quite clear
But everything she knew just keeps gettin' smaller in the rearview mirror

Any night, Chevrolet
The AC's busted, but the radio plays
As she flies on faith down the highway

Everybody says she's dreamin'
Call her crazy for believin'
Sometimes, all you really need is
Fifty dollars and a dashboard Jesus

Maybe she'll find a little one-horse-town
Dip her toes in the sand on the edge of the ocean and put her roots down
Maybe bright city lights will call her name
Long as she's goin' somewhere, it don't matter to her either way

Everybody says she's dreamin'
Call her crazy for believin'
Sometimes, all you really need is
Fifty dollars and a dashboard Jesus

Everybody says she's dreamin'
Crazy for believin'
But all you really need is
Fifty dollars and a dashboard Jesus
She's leavin'
Chasin' down the taste of freedom
Sometimes, all you really need is

Fifty dollars and a dashboard Jesus
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah

Overall Meaning

In Carly Pearce's song Dashboard Jesus, she tells the story of a girl riding shotgun beside her in a car as the sun sets on the open road. The girl is filled with homesickness and uncertainty about the future, but she has faith in her heart and the strength to chase down her dreams. As the journey continues, they encounter various obstacles and decisions to make, but she remains focused on the feeling of freedom in her heart. Pearce beautifully captures the essence of hope, determination, and faith in this song as the girl chooses to chase down her dreams no matter where they may take her.

CARLY PEARCE (2020) – DASHBOARD JESUS (Traducción)
The sun's goin' down on those little white lines
There's a whole lot of homesick, ridin' shotgun on the passenger side
Oh, and what's up ahead, it's not quite clear
But everything she knew just keeps gettin' smaller in the rearview mirror

'89 Chevrolet
Un Chevrolet del 89
The AC's busted, but the radio plays
As she flies on faith down the highway
Mientras vuela con fe por la carretera

Everybody says she's dreamin'
Todo el mundo dice que está soñando
Call her crazy for believin'
La llaman loca por creer
Sometimes, all you really need is
Fifty dollars and a dashboard Jesus

Maybe she'll find a little one horse town
Or dip her toes in the sand on the edge of the ocean and put her roots down
Maybe bright city lights will call her name
Long as she's goin' somewhere, it don't matter to her either way

Everybody says she's dreamin'
Todo el mundo dice que está soñando

Loca por creer
But all you really need is
Fifty dollars and a dashboard Jesus

She's leavin'
Ella se va
Chasin' down the taste of freedom
Persiguiendo el sabor de la libertad
Sometimes, all you really need is
Fifty dollars and a dashboard Jesus
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh, sí, sí, sí

I heard this song when I first separated from my husband of 15 years, he physically emotionally abused me for years, when I finally grew strong I said goodbye, boy did he drag my name in the mud told everyone the ugliest lies. This song made me feel validated in my choice to leave and help me cope.
