There goes the man, there goes the plan, there goes the truck
Woman down, down to one prayer
God get me through it for the two asleep upstairs
She can't breathe, but she ain't dyin'
And there ain't no time for cryin'
There's a phoenix down inside when
Her feet are to the fire
Who you gonna bet on when the sky is fallin'?
Been to hell and back, up against the wall, then
Gets knocked down but ain't afraid of crawlin'
Who's your money on, who's your money on?
She can make a mountain move
And do it in her high-heeled shoes
If she ain't back up yet, just stick around
You can't keep a woman down
A woman down
A woman down don't stay down long
Can't come unglued, yeah, she's got too much goin' on
If she's out of land, she'll find a boat
Can't find a hand, she'll find some rope
All out of heart, she'll find some hope
Where you swear it can't be found
Who you gonna bet on when the sky is fallin'?
Been to hell and back, up against the wall, then
Gets knocked down but ain't afraid of crawlin'
Who's your money on, who's your money on?
She can make a mountain move
And do it in her high-heeled shoes
If she ain't back up yet, just stick around
You can't keep a woman down
A woman down, a woman down
Who you gonna bet on when the sky is fallin'?
Who you gonna call on when the Devil's callin'?
Who you gonna bet on when the sky is fallin'?
Who you gonna call on when the Devil's callin'?
Who you gonna bet on when the sky is fallin'?
Been to hell and back, up against the wall, then
Gets knocked down but ain't afraid of crawlin'
Who's your money on, who's your money on?
She can make a mountain move
And do it in her high-heeled shoes
If she ain't back up yet, just stick around
You can't keep a woman down
Who you gonna bet on when the sky is fallin'?
A woman down
Who you gonna call on when the Devil's callin'?
A woman down
Who you gonna bet on when the sky is fallin'?
A woman down
Who you gonna call on when the Devil's callin'?
Carly Pearce's song "Woman Down" is an empowering anthem that celebrates the resilience and strength of women. The lyrics paint a picture of a woman who is facing difficult times, but refuses to let it defeat her. She may be down on her luck, but she's not giving up.
The song starts by acknowledging the challenges she's facing - a failed relationship ("There goes the man, there goes the plan, there goes the truck") and the responsibility of being a single mother ("God get me through it for the two asleep upstairs"). Despite feeling suffocated and overwhelmed, she finds a fire within herself, a sense of determination that refuses to let her be consumed by her circumstances ("She can't breathe, but she ain't dyin', and there ain't no time for cryin'"). The phoenix metaphor reveals that even in the midst of adversity, she has the ability to rise from the ashes and emerge stronger.
Carly Pearce sings of a woman who doesn't stay down for long. She's resourceful, resilient, and relentless in her pursuit of overcoming obstacles. Whether it's finding a boat when she's out of land, finding rope when she can't find a hand, or finding hope when she's out of heart, she refuses to accept defeat. The lyrics suggest that she possesses an unwavering spirit and an indomitable willpower that enables her to keep going.
Ultimately, "Woman Down" is a tribute to the power and resilience of women. It encourages listeners to believe in themselves and their ability to overcome any challenge that comes their way. No matter how many times she's knocked down, she will continue to get back up and prove that you can't keep a woman down.

I love this song Carly, I was in an abusive marriage that lasted for 10 yrs and I finally got up the courage and kicked him out after all of the abuse and him telling me how he was going to kill me all the time, I'd had ENOUGH!! I'm so glad you wrote this song for women out there that's been through hell and back.

This song reminds me of my mom. When I was 7 my dad died. She was left with two little kids to raise by herself. I never saw her break down. She put herself though college and opened her own business.
