Wheeler is also a founding member of the female vocal group 'Brown Sugar' along with vocalist Kofi whose solo hit "Black is My Colour" is today considered in reggae circles a classic. In fact the two were re-united in October 2005 at the Metropolitan Black Police Association's annual gala at The Barbican in London.
After her success with Soul II Soul, Wheeler enbarked on a solo career, and released two albums: UK Blak (1990) and Beach of the War Goddess (1993). Her biggest solo success single is "Livin' In The Light" from her first solo album, which hit #53 on the Hot 100 and spent a week at #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1989. It also reached the Top 20 in the UK Singles Chart.
Wheeler's only other solo Top 40 hit single was the title track from UK Blak. She also featured with Soul II Soul on the soundtrack to the Angela Bassett movie, How Stella Got Her Groove Back in 1998. More recently, Wheeler featured on Richard X's 2003 album, Richard X Presents His X-Factor Vol. 1

What losing's all about
Can never tell what we may do
How's it gonna turn out
Candle ever burning
For you in the dark
Calling your name in daily prayer
Always close to my heart
There's a child torn apart from me, somewhere
Sky water, mingles with my eyes
Watching eager at the border
Only your smile can ease the pain
Put a seal on my doubt
Just to know love surrounds you
Are you really happy and contented, oh
I feel like screaming out, yes, I do, oh
When will I get to stay or even play
With you again
Oh, over years, tears are cried
But I've hope that you I'll find
The lyrics of Caron Wheeler's song Somewhere talk about loss, hope, and love. The opening lines talk about the experience of loss and how it teaches one hard lessons. The lyrics signify the uncertainty that tricky situations bring with them, as it is hard to predict accurately how the situations will tighten or let loose. The presence of a burning candle in the dark represents the hope that one always carries inside them, even when the situation seems dire. The lyrics reflect a sense of yearning and longing for someone who is not present at the moment.
In the following lines, the artist talks about how the longing and pain heighten with each passing day. The artist says that only the sight of the loved one's smile can pacify the pain and sadness. However, the artist recollects that the love surrounding the missing person is re-assuring, even though they are not around. The lyrics further talk about the dilemma of not knowing if the missing person is happy and content in their life. The lyrics reflect the desire to scream out the questions that the artist has about their loved one.
The lyrics convey the message that even though it has been years since they last saw their loved one, they still have hope that they will find them. The lyrics have a deep sense of sadness but also reflect the resilience of the human spirit. The lyrics showcase the power of hope and the strength of faith.
