Over You
Cassadee Pope Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
By now I should be used to the cold
Mid-February shouldn't be so scary
It was only December I still remember
The presents, the tree, you and me
But you went away
How dare you?
They say I'll be OK
But I'm not going to ever get over you
Living alone here in this place
I think of you, and I'm not afraid
Your favorite records make me feel better
Cause you sing along with every song
I know you didn't mean to give them to me
But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I'll be OK
But I'm not going to ever get over you
It really sinks in you know
When I see it in stone
Cause you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I'll be OK
But I'm not going to ever get over you
Ever get over you
In Cassadee Pope's song "Over You," she sings about the pain and heartbreak of losing someone she loved. The weatherman predicts snow, and although she should be used to the cold by now, she's scared. She reflects on the memories of the past holiday season, with the presents, the tree and being with the one she loved. However, this happy time ended when the person she loved went away. Cassadee is hurt and can't believe they left her. She misses them terribly and people tell her she'll be okay, but she knows she'll never get over them.
As Cassadee sings about living alone in her place, she finds comfort in listening to the person's favourite records. It makes her feel like they're still with her because they used to sing along to every song. She remembers how they didn't mean to give her the records, but now they're all she has left. When she sees their name carved in stone, the reality hits her hard of just how much they're gone. She's still not over them despite what people say.
"Over You" is a poignant song that deals with heartbreak, grief and loss. It's a testament to the power of music and how it can console us during our darkest times. Cassadee's emotions are raw and relatable and the song reminds us that healing from the pain of losing someone we love is a process that takes time.

It takes it to a whole new level. Itโs even more sentimental then when Miranda is singing it. The calm music element makes it even more hard not to cry.

I can't count how many time I have watched this vid. it still gets me every time. It's not about her vocal performance (though it was fantastic) it's about the feeling, the look on her face, the look on Blake's face.........priceless. When things are the way they are and the world is closing in, I go back to this performance. Always gives me chills!!!!!!!

I still come back and listen to this song. It's one of my all time favorites from the Voice. Cassadee took this gift from Blake, made it her own and then delivered an emotional, beautiful song that heads every highlight reel I have for any Voice song compilation. Absolutely Marvelous!
