In 1952 she married juggler Erik van Aro (Gerd Eric Horst Scholz). He recognized her talent and accompanied her in her initial years of worldwide success, although they later divorced. In 1953, she made her first recordings with Kurt Edelhagen. Soon afterwards she achieved great success with songs like "Malagueña", "The Breeze and I", and "Dreh dich nicht um" with the Werner Müller orchestra. In 1955 she was featured on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Gordon MacRae. Between 1966 and 1972 she was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Show. In 1972, she married the British pianist Roy Budd; they had a son, Alexander, but they divorced in 1979.
In Germany she was a major performer of Schlager music. There she recorded Cole Porter's "I love Paris" i.e. "Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe", which sold more than 500,000 copies in (1954.) Like in other countries where she was popular, some in Germany mistakenly consider her a German singer.
Over the years, she has recorded or performed with many international stars, including Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Woody Herman, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Sy Oliver, Claus Ogerman, and Chet Baker.
In 2001, she released a new album Girltalk with harpist Catherine Michel. She is also the mother of singer Eric van Aro, Jr.
Tonight We Love
Caterina Valente Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Beams down in dream light tonight
We touch the stars
Love is ours
Night winds that sigh
Embrace the sky
Tonight we love in the glow
This wasn't meant to borrow but tomorrow
Will it be gone
Or will it always live on
Tonight we love
The lyrics to Caterina Valente's song "Tonight We Love" are about a special night shared between two lovers. The moon is beaming down in dream-like light while they touch the stars and the night winds sigh, creating a feeling of intimacy and emotion. The couple is in the moment, unafraid to express their love and passion for one another. The gentle glow that surrounds them is a reminder that life can be fleeting, and they may not know if they will have a tomorrow together. But for now, they revel in their love, and hope that it will always live on.
The lyrics are evocative and romantic, painting a picture of a moment in time that is both fleeting and eternal. The song is about the power of love to transcend time and space, and the connection between two people who are deeply in love. The music is soft and gentle, with a dreamy quality that perfectly captures the mood and sentiment of the lyrics.

For Guiliano
Baratta: Yes Indeed! And I wish
to also thank TCHAIKOVSKY for
visiting Roma,
where he was inspired to compose "Capricio Italien." I like how he began this masterpiece with the tune he heard
each morning from his albergo
finestra of a trumpet playing
a fanfare military
tune from the
barracks situated
nearby. Distinti
Saluti from Las
Vegas, Nevada.😃

Glad you had found this two
weeks ago, unbenownst to me. For a long time the comments totaled
99. I must have
overlooked your
comment so as
long as the total
held at 99 I kept
giving reminders,
as I have given
you so many other leads I figured you
could have trouble keeping up with it
all. Just now, Feb.
24, I checked again, saw the total was 100, so
I knew it was you.
I am basically the
only person who
has posted a comment here in
ages! So, that's the "storia," (used
Italian word for story, in honor of
Caterina Valente!
(Can't resist this
limerick: "There once was a girl
named Gloria, who
had sex in the Waldorf-Astoria.
Her husband found out, and kicked her out of
the house. And that was the end
of the storia!"😆

I took your advice
and to my great
pleasure discovered
this astounding
aria-like evergreen by
"Mr. Excitement," JACKIE WISON. How
I missed out on this
one is beyond me. His incredible range was never more gloriously demonstrated than
in this song, so pure,
so refined, so Johnny
Mathis-like but with
that inimitable cotton patch type black Southern-sounding
"soul."(Even though
Jackie was from Detroit.) Everybody should give this gem
a listen for themselves!

I resist the impulse

Rosemary Clooney;
Julie London; Julie

of other female vocalists to be admired, EAT YOUR

One of the greatest songbirds God
ever created!
This is indubitably
one of the most
ethereal and soul-stirring vocal performances in
all of recorded
history.

My parents had this album and I have it now (vintage in top condition). The most beautiful music ever.
