Epilogue
Cats Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I thought it all came to a cross but it turned into a circle
When I started using green with a touch of orange and purple
Like sunset over rock mountains with a forest in the distance
It dissipated my resistance to truth, to flow
To what I've always known in the recess of my soul
In the darkness where I grow
And so I let go of the burden I'd been bearing
Of the mask that I'd been wearing
It was such a heavy load
To judge a thing on quality alone is a delusion
Whether right or wrong, good or evil can't ever be proven
You can point your finger, scream and shout
And stay lost in the illusion
Or sit quietly, watch your thoughts and feel the mountains moving
This meditation is a blessing and provision
To help us see beyond the falsehood of division
And so the universe bestowed on us a vision
Of a lung filled up to zero, turned to one in exhalation
So here I sit and contemplate the might of this existence
While something in me tries to qualify the world with such insistence
Some say that all is nothing, some say that all is one
Who speaks the truth? I seek the truth in everyone
Within these bodies we must seek a clearer view
If you zoom out far enough the galaxy's a molecule
And if we look within ourselves, we're given yet another clue
This expansion and contraction is a microcosm too
You are the perfect self and yet you don't know what to do
You seek a thousand goals and know not which one to pursue
But don't forget that every river found the ocean blue
I wonder on the way if every drop of water knew
Your mind's stuck in a loop and is just endlessly repeating
The fog you think you're stuck in is just something you're perceiving

The wisdom of this world I can no longer find relief in
The teachings of my wordless breath are all I can believe in

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Epilogue" by Cats delve into themes of self-discovery, letting go of burdens, and seeking truth and enlightenment. The song starts with the realization that what was initially thought to be the end turned out to be a continuous cycle. The use of colors like green, orange, and purple symbolizes a transformation and a heightened perception of the world. The sunset over rock mountains with a forest in the distance represents a moment of clarity that breaks down resistance to truth and allows for personal growth.

The song emphasizes the idea that judging things solely based on their quality is a delusion, as concepts like right and wrong or good and evil can't be definitively proven. In this illusion, one can either get lost in anger and blame or choose to sit quietly, observe their thoughts, and perceive the interconnectedness of everything. The lyrics suggest that meditation is a blessing that helps transcend the false divisions created by mankind. The mention of a lung filling up to zero and then turning to one in exhalation alludes to the realization of unity and oneness within the universe.

The lyrics also touch on the uncertainty of existence and the search for truth among contrasting beliefs. The song acknowledges the various perspectives that exist, with some claiming that all is nothing and others asserting that all is one. Rather than favoring one perspective, the singer seeks truth in everyone and encourages introspection. The analogy of zooming out to realize that a galaxy is just a molecule and looking within to find further clues highlights the concept of expansion and contraction within the microcosm of life.

As the song progresses, it explores the human struggle of having a perfect self yet feeling lost and unsure of which goals to pursue. The idea that every river finds the ocean implies that there is a path to fulfillment, although it may not be immediately clear. The lyrics suggest that one's mind may be trapped in a repetitive loop, perceiving a fog that is not truly there. Ultimately, the singer finds solace and belief in the teachings of breath and the wisdom acquired through wordless understanding.

The saddest part is the cats can't talk - so Stray can't tell his tribe about his adventures.
Where he's been, what has happened to him and what he did - all his story will remain untold to everyone.
Well, except for B-12 (who's now has other things to worry about), and us - who play this game and watch those videos on YouTube.
I could say - this is very symbolic. Many of us have a lot to tell - but we will not. Because nobody will believe anyway.
And nobody cares.
Daily routine is the alpha and omega of any society and everything, that is not the part of daily routine has zero value to majoryty of population - even families of those who's been somewhere, has seen and did something unordinary.
So your story is only yours. And, maybe even you will forget it someday... because it was long ago, and doesn't matter anymore...

One more time - i'm amazed, how deep the story of this game is.

thank you for making me less depressed about the ending. cant believe math did something to make me happy😭

Alix -

Fr, math has only ever brought me suffering 💀

trusty rusty

idk I still hate maths, it sucks

Kirill Heroes

@trusty rusty its not maths that sucks, it the school that can't teach properly

trusty rusty

@Kirill Heroes I highly agree with you and slightly disagree, while there are few casual schools who teach maths poorly, it's also maths which is very complicated, as we get promoted to next grade levels, it just becomes difficult, like if ur grade 7, it's tough and in grade 8 it's double than previous and grade 9 it's going to be rocket science maths

Dovos

@trusty rusty the problem with math is that schools teach the fundamentals wrong. from day 1 on. math isn't something you can "understand" like a word. math is purely knowledge based and it doens't matter if you understand your knowledge or not. you just have to know how and when to use what you know. it will always be right if you use the right formula in the right situation. there is no x is all of a sudden not 3 but 5.
all you have to know about math is what the variables are and where you get the value of these variables including what formula gets used to get the searched value with the given varibales. you don't have to "understand" or even know WHY it works. you just have to accept that it is that way. the WHY in maths is only teached when you do math classes in the university. there are many things most people have no clue about that you can do in maths or that it is even part of maths like group theory or in a sense even parts of programming.
the thing that makes math so hard in school in grade 9 is that that is the point where you have to know everything you learned once in the years before and uses that knowledge as foundation for the harder stuff, but because school has it's tests and a really bad way of taking notes in notebooks it is normal for a student to forget the last subject within the week after the test about it because you never use the same formulas again until much much later.
the diffrentz between a math "genius" that can calculate big numbers in a second and a "normal" student who can't even calculate the small multiplication table fast, is that the "genius" has memorized the big multiplication table (until 100*100) by heard and knows about small algorithm that allows him to break down big calculations into small basic calculations in his head and recall the answer to the small calculation and then he works his way up until he recalls the last answer he needs and then he has the answer to the equation.
in china there are maths competitions where a few students stand on a stage and get told 100 3 digit numbers and they have to add them up in the head. the numbers get called out each second and won't be repeated. the one who get's it right or is the closest wins. and there are always some that get it right. something like that is unthinkable in western schools because we don't memorize the basics of maths to that degree and don't learn to train our mind to be able to use the short term memory that effective and in such a way.
