Clandestine Ways
Cattle Decapitation Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The human animal
so similar in so many ways
to our mammalian counterparts
experimented on in torturous ways
We've freed the specimens
We've taken over the facility
We've captured these torturers
Time to teach them some humility

Ah syringes filled with dihydrodesoxymorphine
I've combed the streets in search of hypodermic
needles and dirty sharp hoarding
All aboard this ship of fools, this train of pain is finally boarding
Tendinous disintegration, irreparable musculature goring

Ah these shameless ways we get our fix
we get our kicks off human suffering
through puncturing the skin accidentally restructuring
Epimysium covering

No need for anesthetics, your research for cosmetics landed
you here on my gurney, hurting, gurgling diuretics
Tube in your anus leads to open sores creating sepsis
Septic shock sets in no asepsis in my cold aesthetics
Apathetic, yet frenetic, simply unsympathetic,
shredded limbs needing prosthetics, best to just call off the medics

How does it feel?
Multi-Dermal peelthat shall never heal
These clandestine ways of distributing pain
Diseased train of thought krokodil rot

Oh this desire to see your limbs on fire
This sick exhilaration of total excruciation

Ah these shameless ways we get our fix
we get our kicks off human suffering
through puncturing the skin accidentally restructuring
Epimysium covering

Now I believe I've seen everything
of what this subspecies is capable of producing
Why do we do these things?

Is this the meaning of human being?
Bleeding is believing

Overall Meaning

The song "Clandestine Ways" by Cattle Decapitation is a visceral commentary on the disturbingly similar ways in which humans treat animals in scientific experiments. The lyrics reveal a sense of disgust towards those who carry out cruel tests and experiments on animals, and the desire for a reckoning. The opening lines "The human animal / so similar in so many ways / to our mammalian counterparts / experimented on in torturous ways" set the stage for the rest of the song, which describes the revenge of the tortured animals. The line "We've taken over the facility / We've captured these torturers / Time to teach them some humility" suggests that the animals have become the aggressors and are now inflicting pain on their abusers.

The middle section of the song is particularly graphic and disturbing, describing the use of heroin and other drugs to cause pain and suffering to humans, as retribution for the experiments inflicted on animals. The line "through puncturing the skin accidentally restructuring / Epimysium covering" suggests that the animals are now puncturing the skin of humans, causing intense pain and reconfiguring their muscles to match the pain they endured themselves. The final lines of the song, "Now I believe I've seen everything / of what this subspecies is capable of producing / Why do we do these things? / Is this the meaning of human being? / Bleeding is believing," leave us with a sense of questioning and the haunting realization that humans have the capacity to treat both animals and each other with ruthless cruelty.

Fucking pure truth in this shit, fuck humans who test on and torture animals! So brutal and in your face, great job Cattle Decapitation!

Well said, mate!

Deathbringer88

I happen to think this song doesn't have much to do with animal torture and more to do with eugenics. How the people that run the planet manipulate and mold the species relative to the way humans do to animals. "Humans and animals are so similar in so many ways" . Just my take on it.

Dolan Chump umm I'm pretty sure the animals have brains so like what r u saying bro?

This was beyond epic. A powerful video for a powerful song. But then again; every song on The Anthropocene Extinction deserves a video. Best fuckin' album in many, many years.

@Andrew Baker i like both "old" cattle decap and the "new" cattle decap. I hear some fans complain that their production is better, clean vox, etc etc... i mean, what, should a band keep putting out the same album forever?

That said, i agree with you that "the anthropocene extinction" isn't their best album, but anthropocene and "death atlas" are easily in my top 5 favorite ever. They just fucking rip so hard while also getting stuck in your head

No Bullshit Promotions

+Gonji but Pacific Grim tho

+Gonji I think my favorite is "no light and no lie" or "cannibalistic invasivorism" eh maybe "not suitable for life" tbh I love them all.

Plagueborn is my absolute favorite song off that album, for sure. Clandestine Ways comes close, though. So fucking heavy, but also with that crazy ass, groovy bridge part that forces me to head bang. So fucking good.
