Child of God
Chance the Rapper Lyrics

Just do your thing, child
Just do your thing, child
Do your thing
Truth be told, I got the ball on a string
Carried the weight of the world
But it came with some handles
Moses with the passage
Safely Lord God, please make an example
I try to break shackles
Now they ankles in shambles
I can't expect them to be grateful and thankful
They thought I had a manual like Hansel
Leave your plans in man's hands and it gets manhandled
Dancin' in the street
But I didn't panhandle
When I finally drop, make a pamphlet
Sell tickets, put that shit on FanDuel
OnlyFans and Fandango
Give me your ear like Van Gogh and it's candlewick
I mean, I mean, it's lit like a candlestick
When I'm fatigued like a camo fit
A rich man, the size of the needle that the camel fits
Walkin' to Jesus with my sandals wet
This world would make you second guess your first mind
Remember when it was your first day, the first time?
It couldn't have come at a worse place or worse time
And you remember that little voice with that rehearsed line
Just repeatin'
Do your thing, child (do your thing, child)
Do your thing (that shit hit, haha)
Just do your thing, child (do your thing child, oh jeez)
Do your thing (do your thing child, do your thing)
At every corner store, bodega, delicatessen
Stands a big head kid learning delicate lessons
Roasted for they clothes
Or they emotions or they roaches
Bullied by they friends, or they mamas, or they coaches
Half size, chastised, dolls with glass eyes
Talked down, tossed down, the world just pass by
Grow up to be saviors, surgeons, rabbis
The world should've capsized when God got baptized
The boat don't sink, the show don't stop
The weapons form, the load don't drop
The boat gon' rock, the foe's gon' plot
The rolls don't switch, the photo crop
The motto is "the more those hate, the more doors prop open"
The prince of Heaven was tempted
Told that He wasn't who He was
And they meant it
Never was there a path better cemented
So what they gon' say when
You at the Olympics or tryna attempt?
Remember when it was your first day, the first time?
Couldn't have come at a worse place or worse time
And you remember that little voice with that rehearsed line
Repeatin', it was sayin' (do your thing child, do your thing)
Do your thing (do your thing child, do your thing)
Just do your thing, child (do your thing child, do your thing)
Do your thing (do your thing child, do your thing, child of God)
Just do your thing, child
Just do your thing, child
Do your thing (power of God)
Do your thing, child (do your thing child, do your thing)
Do your thing (do your thing child, do your thing)
Just do your thing, child (do your thing child, do your thing)
Just do your thing (do your thing child, do your thing)
This world would make you second guess your first mind (ooh)
Remember when it was your first day, the first time? (ooh)
It couldn't have come at a worse place or worse time (ooh)
And you remember that low voice with that rehearsed line (ooh)
Just repeatin'
Do your thing, child
Do your thing (that shit hit, haha)
Just do your thing, child (do your thing child, jeez)
Do your thing (do your thing)
Do your thing child, do your thing
Do your thing child, do your thing
Do your thing child, do your thing
Do your thing child, do your thing
Child of God
In "Child of God," Chance the Rapper expresses the struggle of carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders but still trying to free himself from the shackles of expectation and societal pressure. He compares himself to Moses, carrying the ball on a string and dragging it to the basket while asking God to make an example. He acknowledges that he cannot expect others to be grateful for his efforts and feels misunderstood. The lyrics also touch upon the hardships faced by children growing up with little support or underprivileged backgrounds, recognizing that they can grow up to be saviors, surgeons, rabbis, or anything they aspire to be. Throughout the song, he emphasizes the importance of embracing oneself and trusting that inner voice that gives guidance, even when things seem tough.

i'm spiritual and Christian leaning I think his positive messages and focus on god is a good thing and you can make it work like kanye did with donda that had some tracks that made me bawl my eyes out on a few tracks because he figured out how to make good music mixed with gospel/faith, it took kanye a few albums to perfect the art of making religious songs that blows most corny uninteresting Christian music to shame. Chance's strongest project was ACID RAP it was such a unique sounding and interesting album filled to the brim with great flows, verses and beats that made it stand out, coloring book he takes a shift towards his more "positive, Christian" new mindset but he was able to create a lot of very decent and fun tracks with the album not being a classic but a solid album that was enjoyable. It's crazy how far he missed the mark with his last album, it was just lacking in so many areas and deserves the criticism it got, I really hope chance gives us some good writing and takes what he did right in coloring book and shows us a return to form and hopefully surprises us, chance still has it in him to make good music. If this album is bad it's going to turn him into a bigger meme unfortunately and a lot of people will lose interest in him, however even if he fails if you look at kid cudis career, he went from success and solid projects to just back to back weak albums and he became a meme but then he started coming back to form and evolved to where he's at now and kids see ghosts. Hoping chance surprises us all and I can jam out to chance again because i have fond memories of coloring book and acid rap.

@Jordan A he been workin bro just take that time 2 relate to this new music I have faith bro đđšđ
N I K K I Elevated
Itâs always interesting to me how rappers who actually have something to say are the least supported. Chance is dope, doesnât need a lot of hype, and loves God and his family. THAT needs no comeback, it never left.

Nf is another great example of these types of songs

It's because the devil props up hate, envy, women cars clothes ,I'm better than you bs. Shaming their brothers instead of spreading a glorious message of peace and love. Remember these tracks fondly, the world wants it quieted, we gotta beat it harder. Love all
