Good intentions are not enough
To get me though today and this life
You're in the basement watching the TV
I'm on the second floor watching the ceiling
We sleep underneath the same big sky at night
I dream the same dream we can fly
You can run from me
And you can hide from me
But I am right beside you
In this life
Let me tell you who you really are
You're my comfort
You're not a superstar
I can reach up and bring you back down to the ground
And give you everything you dream about
You can run from me
And you can hide from me
But I am right beside you
In this life
I'll give you all the things that I never get
Give you all I have and have no regrets
Take you to the places that I've never been
Forgive you all the things that you can't forget
Take away the pain with my healing hand
Wash away your sins and set your spirit free
You can run from me
And you can hide from me
But I am right beside you
In this life
You can run from me
And you can hide from me
I am right beside you
In this life
Let me show you what I'm made of
The song "In This Life" by Chantal Kreviazuk talks about a relationship where the two individuals are in different places in their lives. The first verse states that good intentions are not enough to get the singer through life. She needs more than just good intentions to make it. The second verse describes two individuals who are in the same house but on different floors. They might as well be in different places in the world because they are so detached from each other. However, they both sleep under the same sky and dream the same dreams. The chorus then states that the singer can be reached even though someone might try to run from her or hide from her. She will always be there to help and support.
In the third verse, the singer tells the other individual who they really are. They are not a superstar but her comfort. She can bring them back down to reality and give them everything they dream about. The fourth verse talks about how the singer wants to give the other individual everything that she doesn't have. She wants to take away their pain and wash away their sins. The final chorus repeats the idea that the singer will always be right beside the other individual in this life.
Overall, the song highlights the complexities of relationships and how difficult it can be to connect with someone. It emphasizes the importance of being there for someone even when they try to run away or hide.

It's cool that Smallville brought people to this artist. I've been a fan of hers since her very first single, "Surrounded" hit the airwaves in the late 90's. She is a very underrated singer.

I heard "Imaginary friend" in a cafe in Amsterdam where i lived back in 1997. Had to ask the owner who she was and I ordered "under these rocks and stones" the next day at the local record store.
The song that always gets me though is Brenda's song.

Chantel makes me so proud to be Canadian.
We have so many amazing, legendary artists, musicians and actors going back since the 50s.
Every Canadian knows that we don't boast or talk with excessive pride of our accomplishments which, is one of the reasons why I think we're so underrated.

I love the references to the One who can do the things she sings. Forgive you all the things that you can't forget, take away your pain with my healing hand, wash away your sins and set your spirit free. Only One can do these things, and He is beside us despite our perpetual attempts to run. It brings tears to my eyes to know that we have a Savior who offers all of this to us.

I recognized something very special about Chantal from her very first album and have loved her ever since. Her music has an uncommon elegance that just touches my spirit - and what a gorgeous voice! Among my all-time favorites.
