Chara earned her nickname as a schoolchild from her teacher (charachara means "scatterbrained") and has been called such ever since. She has always been musically involved, she began composing music in her later years of elementary school and played keyboard in a band from her second year of high school.
One of the things that defines Chara's music is her singing voice. It is often described as sweet and whispering like a child's, yet forceful and sincere. Despite her very distinctive singing voice, Chara considers herself a musician first and foremost; proficient with instruments such as the piano, drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, synthesizer and tambourine. There are common themes to a lot of her music, including motherhood, innocence, love, beauty, and cheerfulness.
She has appeared as one of the main characters in 'Swallowtail Butterfly' movie and sang all the songs. The album 'Montage' is actually a vocal collection from this movie, that's why it was released under the name of Yen Town Band - which is a fictional band from the story. She has also starred in 'PiCNiC' where she played the mental patient Coco. She would go on to marry her co-star Asano Tadanobu (浅野忠信) in 1995. Currently, the pair have two children, a daughter Sumire (born 1995) and later a son Himi (born 1999).

あなたのムネに 高まるもの
みえないからせつないのよ
目に目に目にし こぼれるもの
せつないもの
The lyrics of Chara's song "せつないもの" capture a complex array of emotions and thoughts revolving around desire and pain. The opening line, "手に手に手にし なきたいもの" sets the tone for the conflicting feelings of longing and reluctance. The repetition of the word "hand" implies a physical and tangible desire for something, but also a hesitance to fully grasp it. This could represent a desire for love or connection, but also a fear of vulnerability or getting hurt.
The following line, "あなたのムネに 高まるもの", delves into the idea of emotions intensifying within the chest of the person addressed as "you." This suggests that the singer's feelings are growing stronger and more overwhelming, possibly indicating a deep emotional connection or infatuation. The juxtaposition of these heightened emotions with the invisible nature of what is causing them creates a sense of confusion and unease.
The lines "みえないからせつないのよ 目に目に目にし こぼれるもの" further emphasize the theme of invisibility and its connection to pain. The inability to see or fully grasp what is causing the turmoil amplifies the sense of longing and distress. The mention of something overflowing or spilling over can be interpreted as an overflow of emotions that the singer struggles to contain or understand, adding to their sense of unease and discomfort.
Finally, the repeated phrase "せつないもの" acts as a poignant conclusion to the lyrics, encapsulating the overall theme of emotional pain and longing present throughout the song. The repetition of this phrase serves to reinforce the intensity of these feelings and the complexity of the singer's emotional state. Overall, the lyrics of "せつないもの" paint a vivid picture of inner turmoil and conflicted desires, inviting listeners to reflect on the complexities of human emotions and relationships.
