Kataomoi
Chara Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Chara's song "Kataomoi" tell a story of unrequited love and the pain that comes with it. The singer expresses her desire to know the truth about her feelings and the relationship she has with the person she likes. She wishes she could continue looking at them forever, but doubts that this can happen. The paper airplane symbolizes her hopes and dreams, which, like a paper airplane, can be easily crushed. However, the singer finds comfort in the fact that love grows when it is necessary and wanted. She wants to enjoy the time she has with the person and hopes that she can bridge the distance between them. The singer is aware that the answer to her feelings might be "I don't know," but she wishes to try and break through the uncertainty with a burst of laughter, symbolized by blowing soap bubbles towards the sky.

In the second part of the song, the singer acknowledges the accumulation of feelings that the person she likes has for someone else. She wonders what role she can play in that world, as she feels invisible and powerless. Nevertheless, the singer still wants to take the risk and confess her feelings, even if it means that she will have to put her hopes and dreams on a paper airplane that might crash. The song ends on a melancholic note, with the singer feeling like she is about to cry. Yet, despite the pain, she still hopes that the person she likes will acknowledge her feelings and they can build a love together.
