But why would you care?
You took all the space on the bookshelf
And all of the air
Baby, it's your turn every time
And honestly that's fine
And there's nothing to forgive
Hmm-mmm-mmh
Daddy's a psycho (hmm-mmm-mmh)
So give me a break (so give me a break)
And mama's an angel
I guess that's what it takes (guess that's what it takes)
But I don't think that I can be like that for you
And I care, boy, you know that I do
But daddy's a psycho
And I think you are too
You got a way of distorting the story
And warping the truth
I could be literally perfect
But I'd still be sorry whatever I do
'Cause, baby, it's your turn every time
And honestly that's fine
And there's nothing to forgive
I'm just out of fucks to give (oh)
And I think you are too
You know I was always on your side
Oh, baby, don't say I never tried
And all this pity rings a bell
I just know this shit too well, oh
Daddy's a psycho (hmm-mmm-mmh)
So give me a break (so give me a break)
And mama's an angel
I guess that's what it takes (guess that's what it takes)
But I don't think that I can be like that for you
And I care, boy, you know that I do
But daddy's a psycho
And I think you are too
The lyrics of Charlotte Cardin's song "Daddy" suggest a complex and intense romantic relationship, involving three people - the singer, her partner, and an unnamed third person whom she refers to as "daddy." The song begins with the singer expressing her doubt toward her partner's commitment to their love. She tells him that if he keeps hesitating, she might not be able to love him as she wants to.
The reference to "daddy" in the song has sparked some debate and controversy, with some people interpreting it as a reference to a sexual kink, while others see it as a reference to a dominant figure in a relationship. Whatever the interpretation, it is clear that the singer is struggling with a sense of entanglement, as she is caught in the middle of this triangular relationship. The singer is standing between her partner, whom she wants to love, and the other person, whom she is drawn to in a more primal and sexual way.
The singer is tired of being careful and wants to take risks, but feels trapped by the weight of the situation. She speaks of the consequences of her every action, suggesting that she is afraid of the potential fallout from making a decision. However, she is clear on one thing - she ain't no fool. The song ends with the same refrain as the beginning, with the singer reiterating her uncertainty about her love, and her frustration at being stuck in an impossible situation.
