Sad Girl

And it is deep, deep, deep, deep, my love for you
You left me in the summer and promised me forever, man
But last I checked forever never ends
And it is deep, deep, deep, deep, my love for you
What can a sad girl do?
Take a look at your phone
I'm new at being all alone
And crying all the time
You may be way ahead
You gotta show up, yeah, I want you back
I'm new at being sad like that
And crying all the time
I am sending my love to you
It never sleeps, sleeps, sleeps, sleeps
My love for you
I gotta tell you, all my best songs I wrote the week you left
I got an album from this fucking mess
And it is deep, deep, deep, deep
My love for you
What can a sad girl do?
Take a look at your phone
You gotta man up, yeah, I want you home
I'm new at being all alone
And crying all the time
You may be way ahead
You gotta show up, yeah, I want you back
I'm new at being sad like that
And crying all the time
I am hurting inside for you
What can a sad girl do?
Take a look at your phone
You gotta man up, yeah, I want you home
I'm new at being all alone
Crying all the time
Do, take a look at your phone
You gotta man up, yeah, I want you home
I'm new at being all alone
And crying all the time
You may be way ahead
You gotta show up, yeah, I want you back
I'm new at being sad like that
And crying all the time
In the lyrics of Charlotte Cardin's song "Sad Girl," the singer expresses deep feelings of love for someone who has left and promised forever, only for that promise to be broken. The repetition of the word "deep" emphasizes the intensity and profound nature of her love, which remains unwavering even after the betrayal. The singer reflects on how forever never truly ends, highlighting the pain and confusion that comes with broken promises and unfulfilled commitments.
The chorus repeatedly asks, "What can a sad girl do?" as the singer navigates the emotions of heartbreak and abandonment. She urges the person who left to "man up" and come back, admitting her struggles with being alone and constantly crying. The raw vulnerability in her voice conveys a sense of longing and desperation for reconciliation, despite the hurt she has endured.
The lyrics reveal the singer channeling her love and pain into her music, noting that her best songs were written in the aftermath of the breakup. The creation of an entire album from the emotional turmoil serves as a cathartic release for her, showcasing the healing power of art in processing heartache.
As the song progresses, the singer continues to plead for the return of her lost love and grapples with the overwhelming emotions that come with heartbreak. The repeated refrain to "take a look at your phone" and "man up" underscores her desire for reconciliation and closure, as she struggles to navigate the unfamiliar territory of loneliness and sadness. The song captures the complexities of love and loss, painting a poignant portrait of a woman grappling with the aftermath of a broken relationship.
