Hooked on being the center of attention and realizing that music was his calling, Chaundon gained a reputation for his lyrical prowess, a reputation that followed him wherever he's gone since. Graduating high school and going to college at North Carolina Central University, it wasn't before he forced his way into the bubbling North Carolina Hip Hop scene. From performing on campus, getting on stage at every local club he could find, and freestyling on radio stations such as Power 98 (WPEG) and K97 (WQOK), his name soon became highly recognized all over North Carolina. Becoming a part of the local up and coming crew The Justus League, only helped the buzz around Chaundon grow louder. In 2001 Chaundon started working on his unreleased project "White Label", which was produced by 9th Wonder of Little Brother, Son of Yorel, Eccentric, Khrysis of The Away Team, and Hall Of Justus CEO Big Dho. By leaking his internet singles "Bet That", a hard hitting, high velocity track produced by Khrysis, Chaundon urges listeners to put their money on him in any situation. "Pay Me", produced by Son of Yorel, he lets loose a lyrical barrage on any and everybody out there who owes him money, demanding what's due to him no matter what their circumstance. Chaundon has widened his fan base enormously. Without any financial backing or promotion, word of mouth has been the vehicle to Chaundon's current success. His first release "Slow Leaks", a mixtape he put together in March 2003, received a great deal of press and further stretched his following across the globe. In April 2005 he released his 2nd mixtape release "Live From The 718". This mixtape solidified his position as the strong and witty emcee that he is. Supporters from around the world praise his music and await his solo lp "No Excuses". He was also featured on L.E.G.A.C.Y.'s debut album"Project Mayhem", The Away Team's debut album "National Anthem", Little Brother's "Chittlin' Circuit", "Chittlin Circuit 1.5", their sophmore album "The Minstrel Show" and their latest mixtape with DJ Drama "Separate But Equal.

Selfish
Chaundon Lyrics

It was me, not you, I built this
I'm takin' all the credit
You mad, you can go and get your own
Earn my right to be selfish
This is all mine
You mad, you can go and get your own
I do my own thang
Be on my own grind
Move at my own pace
Be on my own time
Got the right words
But at the wrong time
My girl left me, couldn't give her alone time
She called me, "Selfish"
Guess I inherited it
Well fuck her, I don't need her
How's that for arrogant?
I'm bout to go back
To how I used to be
If you don't like it, fuck it, better get used to me
To many fake friends
You can't please 'em all
You start shakin' the tree, I bet the leaves will fall
And the ones that don't, they the ones you keep
The ones that do, the ones that can beat the street
Tell 'em, "Kick rocks"
Two fingers homie
We don't gotta be cool
I don't need ya homie
I'm a grown man
Get it a grown way
So I don't do it if I can't do it my own way
[Chorus] [x2]
It was me, not you, I built this
I'm takin' all the credit
You mad, you can go and get your own
Earn my right to be selfish
This is all mine
You mad, you can go and get your own
[Verse Two] [Chaundon]
It's all about Chaundon, that's all my eyes can see
There's no 'I' in team but there's always 'me'
Cause I'm the one to get myself out that 9 to 5
Live in the house I want, into the car I drive
I can't lie
I'm not that dude
To wait for another nigga just to make moves
Gamble with my shit? Supposin' niggas loose
It back to the hood, naw nigga I refuse
Came into the world all by myself
And when God call I'm in the casket, by myself
Damn right it's all about me, myself and I
And it's lonely at the top, don't worry, I'll get by
Cause it's my blood, sweat and tears that got me through it
It was I that inspired myself to go and do it
No need to remind me that I'm on that next shit
Who built this? Me, that's who, I'm selfish
[Chorus] [x2]
It was me, not you, I built this
I'm takin' all the credit
You mad, you can go and get your own
Earn my right to be selfish
This is all mine
You mad, you can go and get your own
The song "Selfish" by Chaundon is about self-reliance and taking credit for one's own achievements. The choruses emphasize the idea that the singer is responsible for their own success and that they are unapologetically selfish in their pursuit of it. The first verse by Joe Scudda reflects on the challenges of maintaining personal relationships while striving for individual success. He acknowledges that he has been called selfish by his ex-girlfriend, but he is unbothered by it and determined to live life on his own terms. The second verse by Chaundon is even more assertive, with the rapper declaring that everything is about him and that he refuses to rely on anyone else for his goals.
Throughout the song, the theme of individualism and self-responsibility is sustained, with the message being that one can achieve their dreams only by being selfish and focusing on themselves. The lyrics suggest that the pursuit of self-interest is the only way to gain real success, and that relying on others or trying to please everyone is a recipe for failure.
