I use shot buffer to avoid exactly the behavior of the bullets! Unlike steel shot or copper jacketed bullets, lead pellets get deformed by the barrel and especially each other. The buffer helps them stay out of contact with the pellets and seems to produce tighter groups. If you reload/make 12ga loads I would give the shot buffer a try, I got it from an old marine (duh)!

000 Buckshot is larger at .36

Or you can use 00 bukshot, get up to 9 or even 12, .33 caliber round shot, get better accuracy, better close range number of projectiles on target and most likely much better penetration of those projectiles rather than 4 9mm rounds flying wonky and being a lot less effective. You be the judge.

To be fair, the normal buckshot pellets are about the same size around as 9mm. So basically if you were to be hit with buckshot you’d be hit with 9 9mm pellets all at once
