Child of God
Chris Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Them that's got shall have
Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Yes, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't ever make the grade
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Money, you've got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When you're gone, spending ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don't take too much
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
He just worry 'bout nothin'

Cause he's got his own
Yes he's got his own

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Child of God" by Chris delve into the theme of inequality and the importance of being self-sufficient. The opening lines, "Them that's got shall have, Them that's not shall lose, So the Bible said and it still is news," allude to the idea that those who already have wealth or resources tend to accumulate more, while those who are lacking in these areas continue to lose out. This concept is reinforced in the subsequent lines, "Yes, the strong gets more, While the weak ones fade, Empty pockets don't ever make the grade." Here, the artist highlights the unfortunate reality that individuals with financial means often benefit and thrive, while those without face struggles and difficulties.

The chorus, "Mama may have, Papa may have, But God bless the child that's got his own, That's got his own," emphasizes the importance of self-reliance and having one's own resources. The phrase "God bless the child that's got his own" suggests that being independent and self-sufficient is a blessing, regardless of what others may possess. This sentiment is further emphasized in the line, "He just worry 'bout nothin', Cause he's got his own," which implies that when someone has their own resources, they are not burdened by worries or concerns.

Overall, "Child of God" highlights the disparities in society and the value of self-sufficiency. It reminds listeners that while external support from family or friends may exist, the true blessing lies in being able to rely on oneself and having the means to navigate life's challenges.

LYRICS
You unravel me
With a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance
From my enemies
'Til all my fears are gone
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
From my mother's womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I've been born again
Into Your family
Your blood flows through my veins
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I am surrounded
By the arms of the Father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance
We've been be liberated
From our bondage
We're the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom
Ooh, oooh
Ooh, oooh
You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
My fears are drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
So I could stand and say
I am a child of God
You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
My fears are drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
So I could stand and say
I am a child of God
I am a child of God
Yes, I am a child of God

Dear friends…Recently , a Muslim brother commented here in this video that this song is a conspiracy against Islam…because this song start singing "I'm no longer a slave to fear" . This is just opposite of their belief...Muslims believe in “Master & Slave” relationship with their Allah. Muslims are  considered as “Slave to Allah” and fear is always controlling them. Pray for Muslims , let them set free from the bondage of slavery to real freedom in Jesus Christ. Encourage you to share this video with your Muslim friends . Let Muslims say, they are no longer slave to ANYBODY & became a child of God..Thank you. God Bless You.

Wow! It shows you how paranoid these Muslims are. They even think a Christian song by Chris Tomlin is a conspiracy song all about them. They seem to think the whole world is against them. They've got this mentality of: if you're not with us you're against us. Someone should tell them Jesus wants to have a relationship with them ✝. Jesus does not want them to be in bondage with Sharia law.

Yes. We’ll pray hard for them. Your heart for the unsaved touches and encourages me. We’ll continue to pray for protection and blessings for you and your ministry. God bless you!

I knew the chains of fear were broken when I fell on a flight of stairs and broke my knee. The doctor recommended surgery and told me I could forget about school. I got very angry at the devil. I donated my crutches to Goodwill and slowly started walking. Today I am completely healed and attending Charis Bible College. God is good Hallelujah! ! !

I know what you are talking about.
On the day of my 1st lecture at Bible College,I had cerebral aneurysm, woke up in ICU.
After being miraculously healed, went back to be full time student at the Bible institution.I am still serving the Lord.God is with us even through greatest storms.
