Rice was born in Washington DC, and has been a resident of Franklin and Nashville TN since his early twenties.
From his official website: "In 1996 he signed with a record label (Rocketown Records) as their first artist. After four plus albums and a few handfuls of Christian radio hit singles, he moved to an indie label (Eb+Flo) started by his producer and long time friend Monroe Jones. This new label relationship helped him expand his musical reach into more mainstream pop radio, especially with his light-hearted love songs 'When Did You Fall (In Love With Me)' and 'Lemonade,' still heard in Home Depots, Toys-R-Uses, restaurant bathrooms, airports and shopping malls around the country."
In June 2022, Tates Creek Presbyterian Church released a report on allegations of past sexual misconduct by Rice after commencing an investigation in October 2020.

When I in awesome wonder
Consider all
The works Thy Hand hath made,
I see the stars,
I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout
The universe displayed,
When through the woods
And forest glades I wander
I hear the birds
Sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down
From lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook
And feel the gentle breeze,
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
When Christ shall come,
With shouts of acclamation,
And take me home,
What joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow
In humble adoration
And there proclaim,
"My God, how great Thou art!"
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Chris Rice's song "How Great Thou Art" is a beautiful rendition of the classic hymn. The lyrics describe the awe-inspiring power and greatness of God as displayed in the natural world around us. When the singer considers the vastness of the universe, the beauty of the forest and mountains, and the sweet sounds of nature, he can't help but be moved to sing praises to his Savior God. The song is a reminder to all believers to recognize the grandeur of God in all of His creation and to give Him the glory He deserves.
The first verse of the song focuses on the grandeur of the universe and the power of God as displayed in the stars and the thunder. The second verse shifts to the beauty of nature, describing the birds singing sweetly in the trees, the brook's gentle flow, and the mountain grandeur. The third and final verse looks to the future, with Christ’s return signifying the fulfillment of all hopes and ultimate joy as His followers bow in adoration, proclaiming how great God truly is. The song's refrain, "Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee, How great Thou art! How great Thou art!" emphasizes the personal connection that the singer has to his Savior, and the deep love and respect he has for his Creator.
Overall, "How Great Thou Art" is a powerful tribute to God's magnificent creation and His incredible power and love. It reminds believers of the wonder and majesty of God, and gives them a way to express their devotion through song and praise.

O Lord my God,
Oh, my God, the King of all creation,
When I in awesome wonder
When I am in awe, struck with wonder,
Consider all
Thinking of all that
The works Thy Hand hath made,
Your hands have skillfully crafted and brought into existence,
I see the stars,
I can see the beauty of stars in the night sky,
I hear the mighty thunder,
I am able to hear the powerful and majestic sound of thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout
Your power made manifest throughout
The universe displayed,
The vastness of the universe witnessed before me
When through the woods
While walking through the woods,
And forest glades I wander
As I wander through the glades of the forest,
I hear the birds
Notable is the sound of the birds which
Sing sweetly in the trees,
Chirp and warble sweet melodies amongst the trees
When I look down
But also, as I gaze upon
From lofty mountain grandeur
the majestic grandeur of the high mountains towering over me
And hear the brook
I am able to hear the peaceful flow of the brook,
And feel the gentle breeze,
and feel the tender embrace of the wind's breath,
Then sings my soul,
Then my soul erupts in song and I sing,
My Savior God, to Thee,
To glorify and praise You, my Lord and Savior,
How great Thou art!
Of how incredibly great You are!
How great Thou art!
Of how incredibly great You are!
When Christ shall come,
When Christ returns for His own,
With shouts of acclamation,
With spectacular acclaim,
And take me home,
And takes me home,
What joy shall fill my heart!
I will be thoroughly happy and content beyond measure!
Then I shall bow
At this point, I will only feel humility and respect,
In humble adoration
And in adoration teemed with humility,
And there proclaim,
And then proclaim,
"My God, how great Thou art!"
"My God, you are incredibly great!"
Then sings my soul,
Once again, my soul resounds with singing,
My Savior God, to Thee,
To extol my Savior God,
How great Thou art!
Of how incredibly great You are!
How great Thou art!
Of how incredibly great You are!

I heard this song at my sons funeral today, it was his favorite song. He was only 43 years old and had 3 miracles in his life. He was 25 when he was given 12 hours to live. After the pastor and I laid hands on him we knew Jesus would let him live. He received a kidney from a living donor in church. He is in the medical journals as the sickest person from kidney failure ever to survive. Never give up on God to bring you up when your down, the church was packed with all the people he touched in his short life. I’m glad this was his favorite song and I’m glad he accepted Christ when I shared the gospel with him. I can’t wait to be in heaven with him and spend eternity with all my brothers and sisters in Christ it’s going to be awesome.😊🙏❤️
