Symphony
Chris Tomlin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Shining wonders, fields of splendor
How they sing Your symphony
The deepest oceans, rising mountains
How they sing Your symphony

Let the earth fear the Lord
And all the people of the world
Stand in awe, stand in awe

My heart's ovation, Yours forever
I will sing, sing Your praise
Let every nation under heaven
Shout Your name, sing Your praise

In symphony with all created things
Sing the song that we were made to sing
We stand in awe, we stand in awe

All the angels, all the heavens
Every people, every nation
Crying out to You

In the skies and in the oceans
Everything that's living, breathing
A symphony to You

There will be no greater song

In the heights above or the earth below
Jesus, all for You

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Chris Tomlin's "Symphony" take on a majestic tone as they describe the beauty and grandeur of God's creation. The first two lines introduce the complex beauty of nature as shining wonders and fields of splendor, which sing God's symphony. The next two lines continue with the same idea, but this time referencing the depths of the oceans and the heights of mountains.

The next line is a call to "fear the Lord" and stand "in awe" of Him, which echoes throughout the song. This line goes hand in hand with the following two lines that express the singer's heart's ovation to God, pledging to sing His praise forever. The next two lines extend an invitation to all nations under heaven to sing the name of Jesus and His praises.

The chorus brings the entire world and everything in it together in a grand symphony, a song that evokes awe in all who hear it. The final conclusion is that there can be no greater song in heaven and earth than the one sung in God's name.

Man this is such an awesome song. Every time I hear it I think of that scene in the Lion King where everyone is bowing down around Simba. One day another king's son is going to be raised up high for everyone to bow down to also, with every knee bowing in perfect worship.
