1. Mayumi Ya… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least four artists under the name "Cindy":
1. Mayumi Yamamoto (山本真裕美, born May 5, 1958), known solely by her stage name Cindy, was a Japanese singer-songwriter, active as a singer from 1984 to 1997 and as a songwriter from 1984 to 1998.
She is probably best known for her song "私達を信じていて", and composing multiple Number One hits for Miho Nakayama, namely "人魚姫", "Witches" and "ROSÉCOLOR".
She passed away due to cancer at the age of 42 in Los Angeles, on January 12th, 2001.
2. A pop punk group from Auckland New Zealand
3. Kai Hugo, the dutch house producer rebranded himself as Palmbomen II in 2015 and released an ace album of psychedelic acid jams on Beats In Space. He named all the tracks on that record after various minor characters from episodes of The X-Files, but one of them – ‘Cindy Savalas’ – stuck somehow.
His next album, Memories of Cindy, filled in a fictional biography. Cindy lived in the small Californian town of Carmel Vista and died in mysterious circumstances. Hugo hired actor and model Blue LoLãn to give a face and voice to the character, and she sang on a few of the tracks – notably its blistering highlight, ‘Are You Friends with Amber?’.
Now Cindy has her own album – a pretty good, shoegaze-tinged dream pop record, recorded before the character’s ‘death’, with a loose narrative about her life, loves, and heartbreaks. LoLãn is front and centre, singing and talking on every track, breathing life into a character that has become an uncanny avatar for both LoLãn and Hugo.
4. San Franciso based group fronted by Karina Gill, together with Aaron Diko, Jesse Jackson and Simon Phillips. They released their first self-titled album in 2018, followed by Free Advice in 2020 and 1:2 in 2021. They are due to release a new album, Why Not Now?, on 14th April 2023.

In these lyrics, Cindy expresses her avoidance of certain places and her decision to only go out after dark. She explains that the world is full of people who offer free advice, but she has learned that there is often a hidden cost attached to it. She prefers to take the longer route, avoiding situations where she would have to pretend or face uncomfortable encounters with the person she is addressing in the song and their friends who also intimidate her.
Cindy's decision to avoid specific places like the bar, grocery store, and park suggests that these are social settings where she might encounter the person she is referring to or their friends. By steering clear from these places, she hopes to avoid any potential confrontations or uncomfortable interactions. This highlights her desire to protect herself emotionally and maintain a sense of control over her own actions and surroundings.
The line "The world is full of free advice, wherever I go I pay its price" suggests that Cindy has been on the receiving end of unsolicited advice in the past, and she has learned that even though it may be given freely, there are often consequences or expectations attached that she would rather avoid. This could imply that she has experienced judgment or criticism from others, and she is wary of encountering more of it.
By taking the long way around and sticking to familiar streets, Cindy emphasizes her desire to navigate her life on her own terms and avoid having to pretend or put up a facade in front of the person she is addressing and their friends. She wants to maintain her authenticity and protect herself from potential negative interactions that may arise if she were to encounter them.
Overall, these lyrics convey Cindy's decision to prioritize her own well-being and protect herself from uncomfortable situations and potential emotional harm. Through her avoidance of certain places and her desire to maintain her own authenticity, she asserts her control over her own life and relationships, demonstrating her strength and determination to create a comfortable and safe environment for herself.
