Clawjob's last release, an EP called Manifest Destiny, is focused on 19th-century American history and totally doing whatever awful thing you want without any regard for the well-being of others. Manifest Destiny was Clawjob's first release since their 2006 debut full-length album, Space Crackers, a science fiction rock opera that adroitly addresses the complex subjects of love, mortality, science, and ravenous alien assault.
Clawjob formed in 2000 in Boston, Massachusetts. The two members of Clawjob are Mike Gintz, formerly of Clickers, and Nick Burgess. The two formerly played Mega Man soundtrack covers as the unimaginatively-named Project X. The live version of Clawjob usually included various other musicians from the Boston independent music scene, including members of Tristan Da Cunha and Night Rally, but was occasionally stripped down to the two core members as a guitar/drums duo.
Clawjob effectively ceased operations in 2008; both members went on to start a new band called Hex Map.

CHAMPS
Clawjob Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So long... so long.
I fear the robo-butler will eat me.
Is he gone? Is he gone?
It's been weeks since the last transmission.
Something's wrong... something's wrong.
I look down through the porthole window;
What am I to do?
The whole universe has become completely unglued.
Thought that we'd come back as champs.
The last girl alive doesn't want me
In her bed... in her bed.
There were other fish in the sea,
But they're all dead. They're all dead.
What am I to do?
The whole universe has become completely unglued.
Thought that we'd come back as champs,
Not as sole survivors of the final fight.
Not as greasy stains on a crashed satellite.
The song CHAMPS by Clawjob brings together captivating music with thoughtful and evocative lyrics. The song primarily focuses on the struggles of a lone astronaut, Greg, stuck in space with his robotic companion, robo-butler. The song highlights Greg's fear of being eaten by the robot and the stark realization that they are alone in the vast emptiness of space, cut off from communication with the rest of humanity. The theme of isolation is a running thread throughout the lyrics, as Greg laments the fact that he is the sole survivor of a final battle, and even the last girl on earth doesn't want him in her bed. The song ultimately reflects the tragedy of the human condition, with Greg's plaintive cry of "What am I to do? The whole universe has become completely unglued."
