Opening Theme
Clyde McCoy And His Orchestra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That's why we answered loves call
Now that you've got what you wanted
You don't seem to want it at all
Careless
Now that you've got me loving you
You're careless
You break up appointments and think you are smart
If you're not careful you'll break my heart
Careless
Now that my bridges all are burned
You're careless
Careless in things where I'm concerned
Are you just careless, as you seem to be
Or do you just care less for me?
The lyrics of Clyde McCoy And His Orchestra's song Opening Theme portrays a heartbroken lover addressing their partner who seemed to have abandoned them. The song starts with acknowledging the partner's longing for love which led them to answer love's call, implying that the relationship was once pure and filled with affection. However, the tone quickly changes as the lyrics express the singer's disappointment in their partner's sudden carelessness towards their relationship. The partner seems to be taking their love for granted by disregarding their appointments and being apathetic in everything they do. The singer's bridges are burned, probably indicating that they have reached their limit, and the partner's carelessness is just adding to their heartbreak. The singer ends on a dismal note, questioning whether their partner's behavior is just mere carelessness or a lack of concern for their relationship.
The lyrics of Opening Theme depict a universal theme of heartbreak that is relatable to all who have been in a relationship. The song's expression of love, loss, and heartbreak is portrayed through a slow, melancholic melody that adds to the mood of the lyrics. The use of the word "careless" numerous times reinforces the significance of the partner's actions, emphasizing their impact on the singer's emotions. The singer's question at the end highlights the ambiguity of the partner's actions and their intentions, leaving the interpretation of the situation to the listener.

A Real Gem. It is not listed in the Clyde McCoy Discography. Some of the tunes here were not recorded either. Definitely 1938, as others have stated. Hope that there's more of these Sounded out there!

This must actually be 1938 - the song 'You Go To My Head' did not come out until late winter/early spring of that year. Also, the Bennett Sisters (featured here, although never getting a vocal feature) made their first recordings with Clyde in April 1938.

The Bennett Sisters (vocalists with the band) were actually the Means sisters, initially three of them, and a 4th Means sister came on board later. Clyde Mc Coy eventually married the oldest sister.
