In 1996, the band played the very first Ozzfest. In 1997, their first album Coal Chamber was released; it produced one single and a video, "Loco" (the video was also added after the end credits of Dee Snider's horror film Strangeland, the soundtrack for which the band also recorded an exclusive song).
Their second album Chamber Music followed in 1999. Between the releases, Foss married Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose and became pregnant, necessitating another bass player on tour, a role filled by Nadja Peulen. Foss came back for the recording of Coal Chamber's third album, Dark Days (2002), but left after the studio sessions to raise her daughter. The band's only single and video was the song "Fiend."
Their 4th album Rivals released on May 19th, 2015. The singles on it were I.O.U Nothing and Rivals. It stepped away from the gothic elements from the last 2 albums and was described as groove/nu metal. They disbanded a year after the album was released.
They reunited in 2022, and so far no hints of new music will be released.
Babbit
Coal Chamber Lyrics

This moment is right for mayday
Narcissm will conquer destruction
Waiting and waiting for that rough stake
Don't daddle young babbit in the forefront
Peace ain't easy as a turtle dove
Has this place been told the idea?
Close and gloze, my superstition
Our indignant to rule the backslider
Don't daddle young babbit in the forefront
Peace ain't easy as a turtle dove
Hey deeper in the moment, come with me
This moment is right for mayday
Narcissm will conquer destruction
Laying and waiting for that rough stake
Don't daddle young babbit in the forefront
Peace ain't easy as a turtle dove
Don't daddle young babbit
Don't daddle young babbit
Don't daddle young babbit in the forefront
Don't daddle young babbit in the forefront
Peace ain't easy as a turtle dove
The lyrics to Coal Chamber's song "Babbit" are enigmatic and somewhat difficult to interpret. On the surface, the song appears to celebrate chaos, destruction and narcissism. The first verse begins with an invitation to go "deeper in the moment," implying the desire to experience some kind of intense pleasure or excitement. The lyric "narcissism will conquer destruction" can be interpreted in a number of ways, but it seems to suggest that selfishness and self-love can lead to a kind of personal power that can overcome any kind of obstacle or challenge. However, the reference to waiting for a "rough stake" suggests that the singer is prepared to face some kind of difficult or painful experience.
The second verse provides a bit more context. The reference to "bad goes" suggests that the place the singer is in is somewhat dangerous or risky. The line "our indignant to rule the backslider" is somewhat confusing, but it seems to refer to the singer's desire to assert their superiority over someone who has fallen behind or failed in some way. The repetition of the chorus, with its insistence that "peace ain't easy as a turtle dove" suggests that the singer is uninterested in peace or tranquility, and prefers chaos and conflict. Despite this, the repetition of the line "don't daddle young babbit in the forefront" is a bit of a mystery - who or what the "young babbit" represents is unclear, as is their significance.
